Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

People having a overly emotional reaction to a piece of business.
We saw the same people that went to Rooney's house to threaten him cheering him on a few months later.
I've no idea why fans think their players have the same emotional attachment to a club that they do.
Every one of our squad would leave to further their career. Most of us grown-ups have dealt with this reality years ago.

Listen no one cares now if Modric goes what we do care about is that he cannot be that such a fudgein idiot to not realise that we are happy to sell but Madrid obviously do not value him that highly. Therefore as we are paying him he MUST play until it gets sorted out.

Such a great quote. I would love to have heard it from him...

Did he not say it then? I was at the game so never saw the post match stuff.

I also like the story of some parents asking him on twitter if he'd sign their son's shirt for him if they sent it to the training ground, which he did but instead of sending it back he delivered it to him in person on his birthday. Jake 8)

Fixed. Couldn't care less if they are home grown or not, as long as they support the club.

Fair enough, up to a point.

When his contract ends, Modric should leave with our blessing. But until then he is under contract. Its not unreasonable to expect him to play for us until we get an offer than meets our valuation. That includes preseason training, tours and so on.

On the other side of the coin, if he had turned out to be useless or had a career-ending injury, we would be obliged to keep to the contract and pay him.

So he should keep playing for us until Madrid cough up. Strikes, skipping tours, claims that the head is not quite right should be judged for what they are, attempts to cheat our club out of an asset acquired legally.

I'm not arguing that we should sell him cheap. The club are entirely right to hold out until someone matches our valuation. I just don't understand people getting het up about rumours, gossip and half truth.

Anyone seen the Modric thread on Redcafe? 156 pages long with 6200 posts  ... all that for a player they're never going to get. They all seem to think that we've got to sell him because we're little Totspurs and are helpless in this case  We also need to sell him to fund money to fix our terrible defence as well apparently, I think they've been reading too many TMK posts.

They've been saying some bad things about modric's current 'behaviour'.. They seem to think he's being a bit c*ntish..

As for the thread size, is it really surprising that a forum with a far far larger membership has a large thread on what was once a possible transfer? It was started over six months ago..

I really hope that PSG come in for Modric and blow Real Madrid out of the water and offer up the full 40m. I wonder what he would do then as Levy would snap their hands off.
Lets see how desperate he is to leave then. Tell the little taco to PSG or nothing, and fudge your Real Madrid dream!

I really don't understand this attitude, I have no issues selling him to RM as long as they match our valuation. I'd also be happy if we can keep them sweet and continue to pick up their cast offs.

Absolutely. Ideal club to come in for Modric. If they give us more cut price deals ala VDV, then great.

The Mirror are reporting he'll be fined 15k a day for every day he is absent. This may or may not be true but you have to think that whomever is advising Modric is a bit of a fool. All he had to do was keep his head down and put in the minimal effort in training, and let his agent get on with it. From early days it looked like we were willing to sell him to Madrid and it was just a matter of fixing the price, but now he may have sabotaged his own transfer and turned the chairman into an enemy. To me it is a rather strange and childish behaviour.

I guess a far far larger membership means more ill informed posts, such as this

"But Levy has been playing with him like a piece of commodity for some years now. Its been common knowledge Modric has wanted out for a few years now and has been prevented by Levy personally by either pricing him out of a move or talking him into an extension.

Levy seems to be playing with him again."

Well every forums has it's idiots.

Edit: Plus the posters in that thread have noted how stupid that statement was.

Every one of our squad would leave to further their career. Most of us grown-ups have dealt with this reality years ago.

No one would be having this reaction if he was being professional about it.

I personally had no problem with Robbie Keane for example when he left for Liverpool, he wouldn't have pulled a stunt like this, twice!

I don't understand this attitude. He wants to leave. We want to get as much money for him as we can. Real Madrid want to pay as little as possible. All understandable positions. It appears that all parties are using the press during negotiations and there is also a load of made up stuff too. Did anyone expect Modric to spend the rest of his career with us?

Agree with most that, of course clubs will want to pay as little as possible. But the arrogance of Madrid and Barca is staggering! You had Barca clearly tapping up Fabregas last season, they played hardball over the price, fair enough, but then after they signed him they said "we should have paid a lot more for him than we did." Why not just be happy that you've got a good deal? No point in rubbing the other club's nose in it, even if it is Arsenal :) just makes you look incredibly arrogant.

Keane handed in a transfer request though, which I found to be a weaselly move.

I would rather a player be up front about wanting to leave compared to what Campbell did.

When Steve McManaman left Liverpool for Madrid, he did it on a bosman and Liverpool got nothing for him, but their fans gave him a standing ovation during the final game of the season. At least he let the club know what his intentions were. It was common knowledge even months before he left.
