Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

Re: Modric Gone At Last

Madrid's statement (seems they're trying to justify the fee a little to the Modric doubters in Espana)

Luka Modric has become Real Madrid's first signing for the 2012/13 season. The midfielder was Tottenham Hotspur's main playmaker and one of their greatest stars. Modric has great personality and creativity, which allow him to easily connect with teammates and organise the team's game. He is also an excellent assist-man and makes sacrifices for the team.

Born on 9 September 1985, Modric joined Dinamo Zagreb when he was only 16. The Croatian club loaned him to Bosnian First Division side Zrinjski in the 2003/04 campaign and he earned the Best Player award in the championship. He was then loaned to*Zapresic, where his football and talent helped them finish second in the Croatian league. He returned to Dinamo in 2005.

In three seasons Modric truly bloomed and won three league titles, two Cups of Croatia and Best Player honours in 2007. Tottenham noticed him and he joined them in the summer of 2008. In four years, he helped turn*the English side into one of the greats in the Premier League, reaching the top four in the 2009/10 and 2011/12 seasons, and reaching the Champions League quarterfinals in the 2010/11 campaign, where they lost to Real Madrid. Modric played 127 games in the Premier League, scoring 13 goals and serving 24 assists.

The midfielder is also the standout player on the Croatian national team, with whom he's played 57 encounters and netted eight strikes; he made the Euro 2008 Ideal Team. His international career began with the Under-21s, but he soon made his first team debut with Croatia in 2006 when he was only 20 years old in a 3-2 win over Argentina.

Real Madrid now have a very talented and creative organiser in midfield, an offensive player who can assist his teammates and move the ball around intelligently while always working hard and making sacrifices for the good of the team.

Re: Modric Gone At Last

I'm pleased I was able to enjoy watching a world class player of Luka's quality at the Lane for these past few years

Re: Modric Gone At Last

I have no problem with players wanting to leave Spurs but I do have a problem in the way Berbatov and now Modric behaved. As far as I am concerned good riddance

Re: Modric Gone At Last

£13,495,000 profit for Spurs on Modric's transfer to Real Madrid is impressive enough but the best part of the deal may yet be to come - exactly what we get from the partnership arrangement.

Perhaps there might be a direct transfer or some of Real's players coming to Spurs on loan.

Given that Modric was absolutely determined to move from White Hart Lane, I think Daniel Levy did the best he possibly could in the circumstances.

Re: Modric Gone At Last

I thought he was a very good player but not WC

This. He made our midfield tick with his quick feet and passing but his lack of composure in front of goal did let him down a few times and prevented him from being truly World Class, whilst it obviously wasn't his primary job to score goals he got into scoring positions enough times to have a better than 1 in 10 goals to games ratio. Will be interesting to see how he does at Madrid alongside some truly World Class players.

Good post. I know some people hate stats, and I certainly think they have to be taken with a very large pinch of salt, but I thought part of this was quite interesting (based on Opta stats I believe):

http://www.eplindex.com/18043/nuri-sahin-stats-compared-yaya-modric-arteta-liverpool.html

Modric had 83 shots but only scored 4 goals (compared to 27 and 7 for Arteta, and 52 and 6 for Yaya Toure).

Then again the stats for Modric's number of minutes played is clearly completely wrong, so don't know how trustworthy these figures are!

Re: Modric Gone At Last

Not bad at all having these 'partnerships' with the likes of Internacional, Real Madrid etc. An affinity with the latter can only help gain knowledge for coaching etc.

That certainly seems to ring true with what I remember of Modric' shooting. Every few months he'll slot home a beauty from the edge of the area which will get repeated on SSN and MotD but for every one of those there would be dozens of scuffed shots from much easier scoring positions.

Re: Modric Gone At Last

PARTNERSHIP????? Sounds like we held them to ransom promised not to mug them again.

More like a protection racket.

A heads up on their available players isn't too bad neither.
Internacional produce players like Pato, Sandro, Leandro, Lucio, Branco, Dunga, Daniel Carvalho, Falcao
Real Madrid throw away players like Sneijder, van der Vaart and Robben
