Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

Re: Modric Gone At Last

Good luck to him despite him acting like a prick to get his move. An absolutely wonderful player, really enjoyed his time with us. Think he only ever lost once to the scum

Re: Modric Gone At Last

Best player I've seen in a Spurs shirt, decent bloke as well. Sad to see him go, but it was inevitable. Struggling to see what we can get out of a partnership with RM.

Re: Modric Gone At Last

I was fearing a backlash from Modric, but seems like he was very friendly towards Tottenham at his unveiling at Real today.

Ultimately, Modric had no reproaches against his former team: "It bothered me the attitude of Tottenham.'s A club I'm grateful I've been there four fantastic years, I have enjoyed every moment. Want to thank to all the people who have facilitated my life and my family. This is a new page in my life. No hard feelings toward them, whatever may be said. Simply gratitude towards Tottenham "

After a busy and warm morning in Madrid, new Real Madrid player Luka Modric finally introduced himself to the media present at Real Madrid's press room in the Santiago Bernabéu. He also signed his five-year contract and revealed he will train with the rest of the team this same afternoon (18:00 CET).

I'm ready for everything. I came here to play football and I know it will be hard to earn my spot, but I think I have the quality needed to play for this team. My goal is to earn a place in the team and I need to work hard for that. But I'm ready for that. I want to win titles with Real Madrid.

On behalf of his actual fitness, Modric answered the following:

It's hard to say how I feel, I have to be honest and I've missed games. Hopefully I will only need a couple of games to be fit. I would like to play my first game for the team against Barcelona, but my coach will have to decide about that.

Modric is obviously looking forward to play with his new teammates:

Ronaldo, Higuaín, Di María, Alonso, I look forward to play with them, and I'm sure they will help me as well. I feel that my best is at the center midfield. But it all depends on my coach.

The Croatian player showed no anger whatsoever to his former club despite some reports stating that Owner Daniel Levy wasn't keeping his promise:

I'm grateful for Tottenham. I'd like to thank all the people that made my life easier there. I've only got kind words for them.

He concluded this press conference by saying he's proud to join Real Madrid:

It's taken too long but at the end I'm here in the best and biggest club on the world. I cannot wait to start.

Re: Modric Gone At Last

Not exactly a feeder club are we. The top 4 deals are the ones where it's been the case of a 'big club' trying to poach our best talent and we've gotten some serious wonga.

Re: Modric Gone At Last

Widely reported but papers and media outlets. As I understand it both Madrid and Spurs are privately owned and so under no obligation to release numbers. Something it appears neither has done.

I can imagine neither would want to either.

I saw it as €42m from one article this morning, there simply is no where reliable.

How do you get £5,653,000 for Kranjcar? Seems very precise.

Also, did we really get £8.1m insurance for Richards?

Re: Modric Gone At Last

One of, if not the most talented spurs player i've seen. Sad to see him go, but it was always going to happen. I'm proud we took a chance on him and then made him a Galactico! Sadly he acted like a c*nt, but atleast good on him he isnt blasting us. yet...

Re: Modric Gone At Last

Finally gone, eh? Good. Now we need to spend. Immediately. The longer we wait, the more the media will use his sale as a sign of weakness.

We must buy names. And we must do it now.

Kranjcar went for EURO 7m, which was £5,653,000 at the exchange rate at the time of his transfer.

A very large chunk of a club's operating expenses is medical insurance for its players, which is why there has to be a complete medical examination before a deal is completed.

Unfortunately in Richards case, the poor guy suffered from a medical problem which forced his retirement from football at an early age.

As a result, Spurs received most, if not all, of his transfer fee from the insurers.

Yes, €42m is around £33,000,000 at today's exchange rates, so that's pretty well spot-on.
