Michael Dawson

I deffo dont want Dawson to go either. At least not until January. I think we should wait and see how our leading four CBs get on in the first half of the season. At Christmas, it may well be that we would be crying out for Dawson instead of Gallas - particularly if there are some injuries here. Look at Man U v Everton, despite all their CB resources they had to play Carrick at CB!

Dont sell Daws - at least not yet.

This makes sense. When Vertonghen and Caulker have actually played PL for us and demonstrated their credentials in a Spurs shirt and if Gallas has managed to stay fit, then its time for Dawson to move on.

No I don't see him as a defensive GHod. He's not of the same level as Vidic Leds, Rio puyol Pique Pepe or Company. But he's no slouch and arguably better than any of our other defenders as we have not signed any in that list. Posters seem to have forgotten his contribution in the past and think it is ok just to get rid?

I'm with you Robspur - don't want to see Dawson sold. Quality centre-half whose ability is being massively underestimated on this board.

None of Mourinho, Moyes or Martinez are our manager.

AVB is.

His priorities are not necessarily the same as those other managers. His team will not necessarily play in the same way as those other managers' teams. He is in the best position to decide which of our current players are best suited to the way that he wants Spurs to play.

Spurs have made the decision to appoint AVB. The best that we can now do is allow him to manage the club as he sees fit rather than expecting him to manage as we think other managers might have managed.

Yes and no...AVB is a big, big gamble.

Selling players like Dawson is ripping the heart out of the club. He's not just a top defender, he's massive in the dressing room, a positive guy and a role model. Its what Spurs are all about.

If it doesn't work out with AVB (and he could well turn out to be another Ramos), we're left with a squad which is geared to his system and lacking characters and players who suit different styles. Most of what Redknapp did made sense. This seems leftfield to me.

I hope AVB and the club as a whole know what they are doing.

People have been cying out for wing cover etc for years. It finally looks like were attempting to address the situation and people are still not happy.

we have raised funds by selling fringe squad players and are now looking to cash in on a player who will certainly not be first choice, but is a player who will command a decent fee and thus boost the transfer kitty.

Where else are we going to be able to raise funds from? Loaning Caulker out doesn't bring in any cash.

Why not sell a player that the coach does not think will play as much during the coming season. Especially when it is a player who has a good value, the money will become more useful to the club. To buy a player that the coach wants and thinks is needed to balance the team.

Dawson had a very good season 09-10, but have not been close to that level since.

Re: Dawson

Michael Dawson's move to Queens Park Rangers is in danger of collapse due to "an issue with personal terms", according to manager Mark Hughes.

On Tuesday, QPR and Spurs agreed a fee of £7.5m for the 28-year-old defender.

"At the moment it is not where I'd hoped it would be," Hughes said. "We've still got days left until the window closes, so it might be revisited."

The Welshman refused to elaborate on rumours of a loan bid for former Chelsea centre-back Ricardo Carvalho.

"There is a lot of speculation about players that we are interested in or supposedly interested," the 48-year-old said.

"Some jumped the gun somewhat in terms of that one [in regards to Real Madrid's Carvalho], but we are looking at quality players that can enhance the squad.

"Some are available, some are attainable, some are out of reach. We just have to focus on the ones we feel we can conclude."

QPR, who lost their opening Premier League fixture at home to Swansea City 5-0, have so far signed eight players in the off-season and Hughes stated he planned to continue to add more new faces in the final week of the summer transfer market.

"I think we have probably allowed 20 or so players to leave [since Tony Fernandes completed his takeover of the club]," he said. "We've been able to add maybe 12 or 13 players of, in my view, better quality.

"There is still business to be done. There will, I am sure, be comings and goings but will not be replicated in January and seasons to come.

"This is something we envisage is needed to be done but once we've gone through the process and the squad is settled, then we'll add quality as and when we see fit.

"I'll certainly be comfortable with the squad if we can conclude all the deals we hope to do this window."

QPR's summer signings
Winger Junior Hoilett (Blackburn, tribunal)
Midfielder Park Ji-sung (Manchester United, undisclosed)
Defensive midfielder Samba Diakite (Nancy, undisclosed)
Goalkeeper Robert Green (West Ham, free)
Centre-back Ryan Nelsen (Tottenham, free)
Striker Andrew Johnson (Fulham, free)
Full-back Fabio (Manchester United, loan)
Full-back Jose Bosingwa (Chelsea, free)

Re: Dawson

I think we need Dawson back in defense. I actually demand it. At least he offers some spirit and some solidity.

AVB is an egomaniac and wont play Dawson

I think we might need him back too , but I suspect AVB WILL actually play him

Re: Dawson

Totally forgot about him. You may be right and a few of the 'roll-up-the-sleeves' type of English players might be what we need to get us going for now

He'll give us some leadership and screen our defence a bit. Just wonder who AVB will play in CM when we have everyone available and what his formation will be. I do think its difficult to play Parker and Sandro together, particularly when at home

Re: Dawson

Don't understand why Dawson does not even make the squad. I said it before Vertonghen needs time to settle, Gallas just looks too old and people make me laugh if they think Caulker is ready. We look very dodgy at the back sadly leds cannot play any more but I think the situation cries out for Daws. Want to like AVB but he needs to start getting us picking up points soon or we will fall to far behind to realistically get 4th.

Re: Dawson

Im not a dawson fan at all and dont think he should be in a team looking to finish top 4, but looking at Gallas again today and our problems in the air, i've got to say he could help us. Which says it all really.

Re: Dawson

Surprised there's not a Gallas thread

He looks a shadow of his former self

I want to see Naughton start

Im surprised that some are surprised about Gallas. He is 35 playing in the quickest league in the world.

Are there any other 35 years old defenders in the league playing for a top team?

Even Puyol one year younger has been struggling.

The truth is Gallas should have moved on some time ago now. Why is he still here?

Re: Dawson

Wish I could find the transcript from AVB's last press conference, but I see no prospect of him starting Dawson, even with Kaboul out and Gallas struggling at times towards the end of games.

Especially for a team where supoosedly the key tactic is the high line and where posters claim Daws would be brick because he's too slow. I just don't get why AVB does not like him? Perhaps he's been mentally scarred by the John Terry experience.

Re: Dawson

I don't mind him being at the club at all

Just surprised he's in the starting XI

He nearly gifted Norwich a goal earlier too
