Mauricio Pochettino

Poch will continue to be rumoured with a return, especially at times where a manager appears to be struggling/under pressure and Poch is potentially available. This will continue until one of the following:

1) It happens
2) Whoever our coach is gains 'success' playing the style of football we want - a la Poch (but the goal-posts for expectation due to what Poch achieved are now greater)
3) The club or Poch state it won't happen

The recent BBC interview before Xmas talking about unfinished business in the PL will only stoke that fire further.

I think the Lewises will need him like Sugar needed Ardiles in 1993 and Levy needed Hoddle in 2001. This time though it will be wise as well as emotional.

It's up to the fans how much time and patience he gets though, and that's where I think he's in trouble.
Expectation is the killer, and if he isn't backed with spending he has no chance.

It is the main reason I am against the idea. Would be as heart-breaking as when he was turned on the first-time, maybe more so…

I think there almost certainly no way if he were to return that the situation would work as well as it did the first time. I think a return would just damage his legacy, so it's probably wise if both sides agree not to do it.

Absolutely!

I think it would say bad for both us and him that we'd want to make a tie-up again.
He should actually well out of our reach as a club at this point and we ourselves should have elevated ourselves that we don't have to think of re-hiring him too..

Unfortunately I agree, even if I (think I) would love him back. It's a no-win scenario, he has shown both with us and Chelsea that he's more than capable to assemble a competitive squad. But I fear that he's not the guy to pull us over the line, and not because of his managerial skill. Because we are us, i.e. not a club willing to do/pay what it takes (even though personally I agree to some extent). I don't think even Pep would do much better than Poch at Spurs, I can't think of anything that proves he's a genius apart from having a better squad, although he's obviously able to manage superstars and their ego (of which we have none). And I can't think of any successful team without a strong, suitable and clearly defined leader on the pitch. I will lay my genitals on the table and say that if Poch had that, we would have won both the league and the CL final. And it has to be a midfielder or at least an advanced defender.

To be honest, I think we need an old school manager, that takes control and kicks some backsides - but without the ego. A Ferguson (yeah, I know) where it's about the team, not a Mourinho where it's about the man. A manager isn't your buddy that just picks the team, he's your boss. And you're here to play football within a system and with maximum effort. Not just get through 90 minutes and then go home to your mansion. Enough with the nice guy brick. I know most loved the Maddison vlog, I got a tiny bit suspicious even if I'm aware that we didn't see all sides of it. Personally I hate the Gordon Ramsay type, but that's because I'm a normal guy that's able to adjust and conform, not a pampered kid. I have a hunch that a lot of the dropoff we see in quality from too many players (not just at Spurs) is due to being treated "too well", concentrating on too many things outside football and subsequently losing the necessary respect for both the manager and the club itself. The worst that could happen shouldn't be not making the first XI, it should be getting chewed out, beaten on your bare buttocks and sent to bed without dinner.

Or a manger that makes you bring your fudging dinner.

IF we’re not going to play attractive possession-based football and are looking to be ruthless and successful, I’d rather see Simeone than anyone else of that mould. Of course he may never ever leave AM, but if he showed a hint of wanting to, providing we were prepared to back him, I’d go all out IF we’re going to change again this summer. Again, I base this solely on the caveat that perhaps our hierarchy has decided to go all-out for results whatever the style; Simeone would at least have the entire club fighting and roaring in the same direction!

The one that got away (in hindsight) was Luis Enrique; of course, the truth is, he would likely not have got the necessary tools or support.

I rate Simeone but theres no reality I can see where he would leave Athleti to come here. It would make absolutely no sense. At least at Athletico they back home fully, whether that's making buys he wants or moving on the expensive failures that don't work. All with none it counting as a black mark against him.

Sadly I absolutely agree…it feels like a weird parallel universe where such an appt is made. Further, I think he is counter to anything this board/regime seems set up to work with. I honestly am not sure we will ever see a personality of that size and presence at the club under its current ownership model.
