Unfortunately I agree, even if I (think I) would love him back. It's a no-win scenario, he has shown both with us and Chelsea that he's more than capable to assemble a competitive squad. But I fear that he's not the guy to pull us over the line, and not because of his managerial skill. Because we are us, i.e. not a club willing to do/pay what it takes (even though personally I agree to some extent). I don't think even Pep would do much better than Poch at Spurs, I can't think of anything that proves he's a genius apart from having a better squad, although he's obviously able to manage superstars and their ego (of which we have none). And I can't think of any successful team without a strong, suitable and clearly defined leader on the pitch. I will lay my genitals on the table and say that if Poch had that, we would have won both the league and the CL final. And it has to be a midfielder or at least an advanced defender.
To be honest, I think we need an old school manager, that takes control and kicks some backsides - but without the ego. A Ferguson (yeah, I know) where it's about the team, not a Mourinho where it's about the man. A manager isn't your buddy that just picks the team, he's your boss. And you're here to play football within a system and with maximum effort. Not just get through 90 minutes and then go home to your mansion. Enough with the nice guy brick. I know most loved the Maddison vlog, I got a tiny bit suspicious even if I'm aware that we didn't see all sides of it. Personally I hate the Gordon Ramsay type, but that's because I'm a normal guy that's able to adjust and conform, not a pampered kid. I have a hunch that a lot of the dropoff we see in quality from too many players (not just at Spurs) is due to being treated "too well", concentrating on too many things outside football and subsequently losing the necessary respect for both the manager and the club itself. The worst that could happen shouldn't be not making the first XI, it should be getting chewed out, beaten on your bare buttocks and sent to bed without dinner.
