Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Poch isn't even that good anyway. I mean what's he ACTUALLY achieved in his career? At Southampton he finished 8th, Koeman beat that at the first attempt. In his first season with us he finished with less points than Sherwood in a modest 5th, and in the second the only reason he's done well is because the big boys of the league have flopped so hard. He MASSIVELY lucked out that Kane came through when he did as we'd been crying out for a goalscorer like him for years. His signings have all been crap, I mean Benjamin Stambouli? Federico Fazio? DeAndre Yedlin? Alli, Alderweireld, Dier and Son were all Levy/Baldini signings, nothing to do with him. He got to inherit a world class spine of players like Lloris, Vertonghen, Eriksen and Lamela and co, and the only reason players like Dembele, Rose, Walker and Chadli started playing better is because of the new training ground - was bound to have happened under any manager. Look at how the likes of Capoue, Soldado and Lennon have improved since leaving him for better coaches. No doubt Townsend and Adebayor are going to be some of the stars of the second half of the season.

Quite simply - United are welcome to him. No trophies, far too many draws, choked in a cup final, defeats at home to crap like Villa and Saudi Sportswashing Machine (twice), boring in interviews...Ranieri has proven that money and Champions League football are not necessary to put together a good team and has shown up Poch for the fraud that he truly is. Trust me - we can do a LOT better than this guy.
This should be on the home page for journos/rival scouts to read.

Are you Shaney with a bogus account ;)

All the romanticism aside it all depends on wether Poch is motivated by money or by his project.

It's pretty unusual for people not be primarily motivated by money so that would be the natural thing in my opinion but he is an unusual character in this sense.

I think he wants to build a legacy and something special that is his and I don't think there is a better opportunity for him to become a modern Fergie/Guardiola type at any other club right now other than Spurs and what he has in front of him.

Levy should offer him a ridiculous contract as he has got us to 2nd in the league in February with a zero net spend and at least that can cover the money angle. But the dream and glory vision has to be here at Spurs.

Or am I being a romantic?

People can be motivated by money but think long term rather than short term. It's kind of like how Steve Carrell said in the Big Short. Fraud gets found out in the end. And I think short termism does too. If Poch sticks to his values and the principals that he knows works for him, he'll have all the money he could ever want and in a more sustainable way. Sure he could probably get a couple mil extra a year at Man United. But if he fails and ends up managing Real Sociedad after 18 months, he won't be earning as much as he would with a 5+ year stint here, where his reputation grows in an environment he knows he can operate.

I don't think its as simple as money and resources, it's United, they are like Barca, Madrid, Milan, Juve, Bayern, there is so much prestige with them, they are the pinnacle of the sport, there will always be a temptation.

I obviously hope we have him here for as long as he's successful, but lets face it, we'd bin him off if performances went south or we thought we could upgrade, there is no loyalty in football, it's wrong to expect it.

Honestly don't feel there is going to be any 'pull' for him to join United. If he thinks he can win the league here, why would he go there? To do exactly the same job but start two years behind again?

so he can say "I managed Manchester United"

Really think it matters so little. He's smart. He's about working for a club with a clear strategy running through it where he can excel. He's not about brand building. He's not about galacticos. He's not about leaving a good thing for some spurious management of a club that is on it's knees and struggling to recover. I would happily bet anything he isn't going there.

Like Moyes?

I hear you on the draw of these bigger clubs, but as of now Man Utd's drawing power is not what it was. It is a bit of a poisoned chalice at the moment. Poch is a young man and if he is successful at Spurs these 'bigger' clubs will still be chasing him for many years to come.

What I don't see appealing to Poch is that he wouldn't be his own man at any of these big clubs. The owner/president would be buying players that didn't want but needs to play.

The interesting thing about all these articles is that they talk about the clubs upward trajectory and that we haven't peaked yet as a club. The perception is that we are here to stay.

They are like Liverpool in 1990, whereas we are like United in 1990. Thucydides trap.

I think he'll stay at least a couple of years to see through his transition in the club (unless Levy boots him, of course!). He's still pretty young for a manager, and seems the kind of guy who likes to build something - if we're successful, the question is whether he's then ready for a new challenge at a bigger club, or another challenge (CL) with Spurs.

I think it will be hard for him to turn down let's say Real or Barca (despite his Espanyol history), but if he actually manages to turn us into a force in England, I can see him wanting to stay with us for a longer period. With a new stadium and a successful team moulded by himself...why not.

He won't stay here forever, and who knows, maybe he'll be gone in the summer, but I think he likes it here and at least want to finish what he started. If I remember correctly, he also said himself in an interview that he wanted to leave a legacy behind at Spurs after he left - that itself surely takes more than just a couple of years.

Time will tell I guess. But I'm hopeful.

Hi everyone.
Just an observation. When was the last time that we had almost ALL of us fully supporting our manager?
We have done better than anyone expected.
If this continues, we will be successful this season - whatever your expectations were at the start of the season.
I just hope that MoPo is given the time and support to achieve what we ALL yearn for.
I trust Levy & MoPo to deliver .
Tanks & COYS

I guess Spurs is the perfect 'project'. With United, Madrid etc. the elite clubs, you can't excel, only maintain the elite level that you already are. Spurs on the other hand is a proper project. The stuff dreams are made of.

The biggest draw for Poch here will be his team. I think he really likes this set of young players. They believe in him, and he in them. Hence not wanting to bring in a journeyman forward in Jan to unsettle things. Pochettino can build something here, something he could not build at the likes of United.

At last..Darren Lewis Mirror, speaks sense.
Can't link it but title is:

Jose Mourinho is set for Manchester United - but Mauricio Pochettino wouldn't want it anyway

No, you're being an astute judge of character. Sadly I think we are all so utterly convinced that everyone is in it for the most they can get that we forget to tune in. He will go nowhere for a while unless his working conditions are fudged with.

I don't want it to sound like i'm getting at the guy, but let's not forget what he was before he was a football manager. He was a footballer...
