Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Not sure if I heard it right but think they said on the radio this morning that throughout the whole season the only sub to score in a league game has been Kane. Obviously that was before he was starting games. Now he starts games we literally have no plan b whatsoever. All our attacking options on the bench Lamela, Ade, Soldado, Townsend, Chadli etc have been woeful.

I would completely expect that .. this season has been a season of exactly that.

First 11 when fit/in form is top 5 (possible top 4 if we had started season with current lineup).
Bench/squad is a major drop off, can't maintain system, lacks quality

Solid comments from Pochettino about our current defensive problems:

After Sunday's lacklustre performance you have to wonder whether fatigue has set in now and the season will finish with a whimper.

The intense pressing has dropped off, and some of our starting eleven have lost form since the turn of the year namely Eriksen, Chadli and more recently Mason and Bentaleb.

Is this a by-product of Poch's training regime or just to be expected with the number of games we've played? Poch hasn't been afraid to rotate this season, even though we lack quality in reserve, so it leaves me questioning why our levels have dipped since the Utd game.
The last game I felt we performed well in was the Liverpool one. I believe Dembele was pivotal in that game and bar one game after when he had a shocker he has been omitted from the starting line-up and we have subsequently struggled to control the midfield in games. Not sure why he has been left out. I have speculated that Poch concluded a few games ago that Champs league would be too soon for this team and wanted to put a number of players such as Paulinho and Townsend on trial to see if they were up to the mark before moving them on in the summer. He also does not seem to be very forgiving when players make individual mistakes, first Lennon then Fazio. I could be way off the mark here but just my reading of the situation. I also wonder if the dissapointment of the cup final loss is playing on the minds of certain players. Kyle Walker in particular has played poorly since. After all this is a very young team.

I make no secret of the fact that I am a fan of Poch and want him to succeed but that doesn't mean I necessarily think he will. After all our recent record reads a long list of managerial failures. Poch has done well with relatively poorer resources than any of his predecessors other than Sherwood. That's the context of his achievements this season.for me. I would like to see Poch backed with some of his first choice players in the summer like all our previous managers . That's the only way imo he will have any realistic chance to succeed.

I really don't get why players like Dembele, Fazio and Stambouli aren't getting more game time

Fazio offers leadership of sorts (I'm not sure he even soaks English yet) and an aerial strength
Dembele offer a all retention which was something we were woeful at against Burnley
Stambouli offers defensive cover in midfield

Were at the most important part of the season and it feels like Poch (for whatever reason) is dragging out the deadwood like Poorlinho for instance

I'm all for chances but players like him have had 2 seasons of being poor to average

Stats showing we have been the youngest team in Europe's top divisions this season

Lack of quality options in attacking areas has been problem all season.

Very interesting. Not even just youngest, but significantly younger than other teams that have young teams.

Nail on head for me. Poch has done really well to fashion a decent starting XI out of kids coming through mainly and the best of the summer 2013 signings (well, ok, just Eriksen really), particularly after the first few months of the season when it looked to be one giant car-crash with players like Kaboul, Capoue, Ade, Paulinho continuing to underperform.

However, we literally have no fall-backs now. I think part of our problem is that Mason and Bentaleb are dropping a level now after giving it their all for a number of weeks. We played a tonne of games and then a massive cup-final, which is a big ask for younger players, particularly two who are enjoying their first full professional seasons. They were always going to have a wane, but there isn't really anyone to step into their shoes that fits the system and style of play. Clearly Stambouli wasn't one of Poch's choices, as let's face it, he's barely got a look-in this season. As much as it looked like Fazio was Poch's call too, mainly just because he's Argentinian, doesn't look like he's convinced by him either.

Kane wasn't his usual self against Burnley and everyone's been saying that he will have a lull at some point (as everyone does). So who do we have to score our goals when he does? Soldado and Ade again? Says it all really, doesn't it?

Lloris
Verts
Rose
Bentaleb
Mason
Eriksen
Kane

Have all been fantastic this season

Chadli
Dembele
Deir
Davies
Townsend
Lamela
Fazio
Vorm
Walker

have all contributed positively at times this season and either show promise in the system or could go either way from what we've seen and are 'works in progress'

The rest seem to have been positively frozen out or been consistently poor when they've found themselves in the team. Considering that up to half of that second list are a 'could go either way' under Poch, then you start to think that our squad depth is positively Harry-like (down to the bare bones)

Stambouli has played 23 times this season, and started every game since Everton when Bentaleb hasn't been available.

How many league starts has he had, or appearances? Greg Stobart has written an article saying that Stambouli is one of the players ear-marked for the axe this summer and was brought in on recommendation by Baldini along with Davies and Fazio. He also says Baldini is getting axed this summer.

4 league starts. Essentially the games where Bentaleb was away iirc.

Think that's still telling as I've thought Bentaleb looked like he needed a rest the last 4 or 5 games, but Stambouli still nowhere to be seen.

Yeah. He really has been second choice at best behind Bentaleb this season. Even behind Capoue earlier on in the season.

Will be interesting to see what happens to him and the other new signings from last summer that have been squad players most of the time.

I think a fair amount of inconsistency is to be expected from someone as young as Bentaleb. Unless he shows outright poor form over a period I'm just fine with Poch continuing to play him to help him develop. If that speeds up his development to where he's performing consistently it will be well worth it.

Seems like I've been the only one who's criticised poch all season, even when the results were looking good. Do people really see a manager in there? I'm worried, but hope I'm wrong, that's he really isn't very good. We've been awful, he never changes his system when it doesn't work, but his decision making and views on (awful) players is what is truly worrying. I want to give him time, I'm just worried time will just show he isn't close to good enough.

The persistence with Mason/Bentaleb in CM and Townsend on the right is, frankly, baffling. (As well as Chadli playing, Eriksen on the left, Kane being captain....)
