Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Like I said before I really like Poch, But we have been playing poorly for a few games now ( let's face it we have been poor since the Liverpool game) and we have thrown away the chance of at least a 5th place finish which tinkles me off. On the face of it, it looks like he is not addressing the problems in midfield. He is sticking with the same midfield combo game after game. I can't remember the last time the Chadli/Townsend combo worked effectively. I also wonder why he doesn't "freshen up" the Mason/Bentaleb combo with either Stambouli or Dembele (although I still believe Dembele's best position is higher up the pitch). I genuinely hope that next season Poch can integrate Lennon back into the team, he would be more effective on the right than Townsend IMO.

I think I read an article that, at Southampton, MoPo had his "group" and those were the ones that he gave 1 to 1's and got selected.

To be fair to him, he gave a fair crack of the whip to all the squad but, and this is pure speculation, over the past weeks it seems that this has also seemed to happen on our patch. Hence the same players being selected despite poor performances. Though to be fair to him I don't really see too many options. Sure everyone is shouting for Dembele but I don't think he is even close to the solution; likewise with Lamela - if there is one coach who cannot be accused of bias it would be Poch; Argentine player and all that - plus he specifically was saying at the beginning of the season how he saw Lamela as key player. To have changed that position, must mean that he also does not think he will is the answer...

Short of calling up some of the 19 year olds, I think we will have to endure this until the end of the season.

Endless negativity no matter what. Yeah, that's you.

But I was right, so call it what you want. It's been clear to see all season how bad we've been. People slagged AVB but he did better, and his squad was decimated in his two season - king, modric, VDV gone the first season, bale the next. Poch has had absolute stability, no outgoings, a big squad all bedded in, he's had the whole season, and dne worse than the last two season which were supposedly utter turmoil.

But it's not about the past. It's about now. I'm very worried he's inept. The evidence is there for me. But let's hope it really is because this isn't his squad. Let's see what happens in the summer and next season.

Poch isn't at AVB's level thats obvious, but we don't fish in those waters anymore, we had our chance and we blindly wasted it.

I don't believe anyone out there that would come to us would be doing a better job.

He did not inherit a team that was bedded in. He spent the first half of the season giving the established players a chance and when they showed that they were not up to it, he introduced the youngsters. Anyone who expects a team as young as this to maintain a consistent level of form is a fool. It is disappointing how we have played the last few weeks but most of us were prepared to write this season off if at the end of it we had sorted the wheat from the chaff and built the foundations for our next team. We have done that.

The concern I am getting with Poch is the lack of plan B. His philosophy, based on pressing up the field, is ideal when playing teams who attack i.e. the top 4. Not surprising our best games this season have been at home against Manure (second half), Arsenal and Chelsea. However those are only a small fraction of our games. Our league position is what it is not because we lost against the Manchester clubs but because we didn't win against the Burnleys and the Villas. And this is where there does not seem to be any improvement. We struggled all season against teams that set up shop against us, often winning through late goals or pure luck.

At the same time, where is the creativity in our team? Honestly it's just Eriksen on his day and then???? Nothing really.

Must say I will be very worried if this is not addressed in the summer.

the Spurs job should be for a proven winner, e.g. Benitez, even De Boer, it should not be for an up and coming manager with potential. The job is too difficult, it requires ability to handle Levy, players with egos, fans expectations etc.
It definitely should not be an apprenticeship.

Agree 100%. I have no idea why such a tough job would go to someone without real experience and preferably proven success. The money spent hiring Baldini COULD have been used to hire a top rate manager, not someone young and learning on the job....we may get lucky with Poch, or we may bump along between 6th and 8th, where our wage bill puts us. Time will tell!

There are two flaws in that argument. De Boer is not a proven winner - have you had a look at the Eredivisie table recently? As for Benitez and his "ability to handle Levy".... really? you think so? you really think so?

If Poch had done nothing it is to create backroom harmony. Levy seems to trust him and be willing to give him time - one reason being that he does not go out and dish the dirt on him. How often have we been able to say that in the past?

Thought this was a transitional season for Poch to look at the squad and see who fits for his long term plan? Most people at the beginning of the season thought a realistic finish for us was between 7th - 5th and we needed to give Poch time to do what he does. Unfortunately Spurs fans being Spurs fans are writing the manager off already and moaning about players we knew were not good enough anyway.

I don't think Stambouli, Davies and Fazio were poch preferred players and I am Baldini gets the axe at the end of the season and Levy will back Poch with the players he wants if they are available.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. The Portuguese fool and his scouting are part of the reason we are in this mess. Oh wait a minute it's not his fault because we didn't get moutinho, Damiao or villa.

i will love it if the DoF is removed from the equation.....tbh, i think its very convenient for fans and managers to blame poor buys on the DoF. Of course just because Stambouli, Davies and Fazio are not playing or not up to standard they cant have been Poch approved buys, but because Dier is in the team well then of course he was one Poch wantedo_O is that the way things are?

managers without DoFs make plenty of bad signings too, there are no guarantees to signings working out. Yes i hope Baldini goes and is not replaced and then Poch will have nothing to hide behind when players simply dont turn out to perform as expected.

If any of the players he didn't get along with produced like Archie did, they'd be playing. You're comparing apples and oranges IMO there. If you think Benitez would handle this job, I think you are ignoring some serious facts about how our club is run. De Boer? A winner in Holland. I think this season would be comparable to the year Burky got us back up, and I think next year we will start to see some fruit. But it could be a couple of years. I think he has it, and I think his policy and structure supports that. If he can get three specific upgrades and develop three more youth talents as squad additions, he will be mustard...

I know you want Chadli and Andros upgrades, but where do you see the third "specific upgrade" being necessary? Personally, i think a lot more than that are essential if we want to mount a serious top four challenge.

Also, which other three youth talents are close to the squad in your opinion?

There were quite a few who wanted Burkinshaw out, however, you could see he was building and trying to blend Ardiles, Villa, Hoddle, while looking for 20 goal striker, then two come along: Messrs Archiblad and Crooks.
With Poch I don't see that flexibility, or tactical intelligence, let alone the characteristic of pragmatism that the Burk had. Recall, he didn't get along with Archibald but it never stopped him picking Archibaldd.
Alas, Kaboul, Capoue, Ade, Lennon etc seemed to be at loggerheads with Poch and are not selected. Now rumours that Dembele is in the doghouse.

This is not going well.
I concur entirely wit Dubaispurs the major fault lies with Enic but Poch is not helping himself.

Do you think that he should be selecting those players?

I think that you are spot on with your comments on Benitez. You cannot argue with the trophies he has won but he would want to buy players who are the finished article rather than bring players through from the academy.

i really don't think he's the problem, silk purse sows ear etc etc

sacking him isn't going to fix things, just mean we start again from square one with someone else and we have this problem again in 12 months time when they can't get a tune from a broken guitar either, we need to let him build what he can

we all know the definition of insanity

One of the reasons we are always trying to build something is the pre-occupation many fans ( and Levy) has with sacking managers, we have to get off the roundabout of fans screaming for changes every 18 months it does not work.

Amazed at the posts on here suggesting Poch should be booted. He inherited an inbalanced over-rated squad and has got us to a position which is about right. Anything higher would have been over-achieving. Judge him next year or the year after. He needs to have a couple SUMMER windows to shape the squad

Without a doubt, however some fans will start bitching and demand a change of manager pretty soon its what they do. They reckon that because they can win brick on abacus games that the game is as easy in the real world.

then when he gets rid of the manager and brings a new one in they all moan because he does not give managers enough time.

People blaming Poch need to look out our squad of players. We do not have a squad built to finish in the top four and I'd be very suiprised if even a Fergie or Mourinhio could push us in to the top four with the players we have at our disposal.

The Bale money was spent on absoloute dross, other than Erikssen, whether that's the fault of AVB, Levy, Baldini or the guy at the megastore is irrelevant to the fact that Poch took over a squad incapable of finishing above the top four and IMO last season lucky to finish 6th.
