Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Dont forget the summer bought rest and relaxation, and a full pre season too.

I dont think Kane has looked as fit for years. Son, bless him, actually got some time off. Lamela is actually fit! Winks had a break. Sissoko had a break (and considering the work he gets through it must have been needed).

The "issues" the summer layered on I dont see as issues really. Yes we bought players to make changes, and they havent been available yet (NDombele-sort of). But there still remained the team we had before, the team more than good enough to move forward into the season - actually having had proper preparation for the season.

So much noise about the issues we have faced, and yes things are less than ideal, but IMHO very few of them are real and genuine game changers if the manager is on his game.

I think what Jose did with Porto and Inter should be remembered, this is more the territory where there is comparison with Poch.

Otherwise I agree with your post, except the quoted - right now Im not wavering but having a full wobble, and Poch is yet to do anything to steady me.

Porto and inter are two of the biggest clubs in their countries, spurs aren't.

If you were studying the results, fixtures and tables from afar without the layered on narratives......what would you see?

6th
4th best goal diff
3 home wins
2 draws away to top 4 rivals
1 cm from another win

bad home loss to a poor Saudi Sportswashing Machine
a bad DRAW to lower league Colchester LOST on pen lottery
Bashed by Bayern after 45mins of poor defending but brutal finishing

There is some bad in there BUT an outsider would be surprised that the axe was out for this manager?

Almost every season one of the bigger clubs gets a tonking, although it's debatable we are one of the bigger clubs yet.

We are!
That made Tuesday truly hurt!

We had our arses kicked while our players and coaching team looked like their minds were elsewhere contemplating the navels.
They all need to get their collective acts together.

I think that sums it up, we are on a wobble but you only have to read through this thread to see how some are over-reacting to the situation. We have had five good years under Poch and this is the first time we have shown signs of wobbling, speaking to fans of other clubs i have not met one yet who can believe that some of our fans are speaking about replacing him.

And when i say talking to other teams fans i do not mean the idiots that are flooding twitter and similar.

They do don't they, wish I knew what was going on.

I really could not care less as to what's going on!
Their collective job is to win football matches!
I don't give a stuff who is giving whos partner one (topical flimflam funny) or whatever.
Sort it, manager! OR do one!

Of course we are.

And the context that really shows is in Europe, where neither were anywhere near "biggest"

Porto winning domestically doesn't mean a thing. Porto winning UEFA and then CL in consecutive years was a massive achievement, taking a club under the biggest guns and beating them

Similarly Inter, something of a sleeping giant when he went in, underachievers. Got them the CL against far wealthier clubs, first time in 50-60 years iirc

I'm naturally inquisitive (nosey the wife says) and like to know what's going on so I can understand it better.

There's no doubt Porto winning CL is a massive achievement, and one poch was 90 mins away from matching, but his trophy haul is seriously boosted by the clubs and money he has had behind him.
I could be wrong here, there's always a first time:D) but other Chelsea every team he has taken over has won multiple titles since we last did. And Chelsea had won multiple cups since we last have.
The comparison is lopsided.

That's taking this season's results into isolation though. No narrative needed, if you threw in the stats from the last 12-18 months it would show a different picture. Just looking at our results, shots taken, scored, shots against etc an outsider would see a continuing downward trend in form.

Look at that stat that we've already given up 40% of shots we did for the entire 16/17 season in 6 games.

And there are more stats like that.

Im not looking at it as an in depth and utterly fool proof comparison.

Rather - he took two teams that werent top top level, arguably similar to us, and did great things with them.

That was really it.

Just as a topic of conversation, how would you rank poch getting us to a CL and top having not signed a player in 18 months to Jose at Porto winning the CL?
