I'd also ask those who are saying Poch should have had an instant impact pointing to Koeman, Monk and Pulis whether they'd have been happy with Van Gaal as manager given that Man U are worst off than us and worst off than under Moyes at the same stage last season having spanked £200m on genuine world class players when they already had 2 of the best forward players in the league and one of the best midfielders in Juan Mata?

Interesting listening to the soccer saturday lot. They all reckon that the team don't show enough of a reaction to losing the ball like Southampton used to, nor are certain players buying into Poch's ideas (in their opinions). They were right on one count though, we don't have the ability to trim the squad how the coach wants as it's huge.

Le Tissier claimed Poch won't play Kane ahead of Adebayor in PL games because he thinks the Togolese is too expensive to drop, whereas home-growns cost next to nothing therefore they can more easily be overlooked. He forgot to mention that Poch got the job because Levy sacked AVB for refusing to play Ade.

How so is our football much better than under avb and Sherwood? Also avb year I provided us some really good exciting wins.
Avb year II was dull but is much different from now ? Same dilemma with high workrate and possession but poor goal tally and defending.
The few new guys coming through - Kane and mason and if you want to include dier, had little to do with poch. Up to now poch prefers ade to Kane!

Spent all his time at Ajax plus a short stint as Netherlands assistant manager. Poch has experience from both La Liga and the Premier League and just as many years in charge of a senior team at club level.
Any reason why de Boer's backroom staff would be more expensive than the guys we got from Southampton?

I suspect MoPo won over De Boer for the following reasons:
1) MoPo has PL experience
2) whilst De Boer has a more glittering CV, like AVB and his Portugal success, it may not have translated fully to success in the PL (also see De Boer's mediocre European record, esp in EL; at least AVB had that on his CV)
3) Descretion in public: De Boer may have scared the board with his (relatively) big mouth and how he openly mentioned our approach, plus his brother and other associated constantly publically given their opinions and maybe even his opinions; shades of Redknapp

Just a wild guess - we're talking guys with wins in their resumes versus guys who have just been there and done that. winners vs. journeymen. Poch had a high profile but ultimately recorded failure in spain, and his short tenure at soton.
Bottom line if we are going to attribute all that success to him, likewise we should equally attribute all the disappointment with us so far to him too. Having the gumption to stay the course and keep faith with Poch is another matter, but lets call a spade a spade.

I'm an avid believer that it doesn't matter who we have in charge as we still need a radical overhaul of the mediocre 'talent' that has infested our squad but we don't have the money or bravery to do such a thing. So we're left with a team full of mediocre players who couldn't give a flying toss about the club and who ever is in charge has to find a way for us to fluke enough undeserving wins to finish in a somewhat respectable position.

Sherwood was always going to be there until the end of the season unless he performed a miracle and won the title.

It wasn't so apparent then with the 18 month contract and the upswing in results. I thought the club looked like it had duped Sherwood into the role.

What I wanted this season was an experienced manager, and by that I dont mean guys in their early 40's who have only managed a few seasons.
What is obsession with us (and others) all wanting "the next bright young manager". These guys are usually suave with exotic names and who look good in a suit. The club dont want managers like Redknapp or Jol because they dont fit the bill, no matter what they achieve.
I just think that its no coincidence that the greatest times in our recent history was with a man with 30 years experience and who knew the english game inside out and back to front. Im not saying it has to be someone in their 60's with the same criteria but at the same time im tired of our club being a "training course" for inexperienced managers to learn and cut their cloth. Thats not what we need at the moment. The job here is huge and it needs someone capable to get it right.
Im not convinced at all by Poch at the moment, but im happy to be proved wrong. I know the turmoil another managment change will bring.
