Neither were top players when we first got them. Admittedly Bale was a highly rated young player and had numerous offers, ours was the best package though.
That was my point. There's another way of getting top players and we seem fairly good at it

At the time neither had played in the PL. And I don't regret the Sanchez purchase, even though this year he's been a bit shaky. Was just wondering about whether we considered deLigt at that time also.

Even the Dutch fans I knew raved about Sanchez over De Ligt
He only played 11 league games that season too
When they played ManU in the Europa League final, all the talk was about De Ligt. I even seem to remember talk about Mourinho targeting Sanchez as the weak spot.

So, Sanchez so good, you had to post it twice.
Reading some stuff now from a speech he gave at a university later, he actually targeted De Ligt so he wouldn't have time on the ball. Sanchez was considered less technically accomplished. Their game plan was essentially what got us through. Bypass midfield and hit long balls towards a target man.
