Mathys Tel

I've no problem with that sort of foul further up the field when we are under the pump, kills the game and we looked fine at defending free kicks.

Emirates Marketing Project are experts are game killing fouls.
Agree. I just shrieked where he decided to foul him!!
Kept thinking if they scored from here.....

Fan response to a player missing a pen is always so stupid. Tel is getting all this abuse but like many are saying at least he stepped up and went for it. It's funny though because I'd say the more critical pen was the one VDV missed because we had the momentum at that point and just stick the rest of them away and we win, but if course VDV won't receive the same criticism (not do I want him to) but yeah some fans are just macarons.

Micky even had his song sung afterwards. Reminded me a bit of Danny Thomas in 1984. Why can't Tel, a 20 year kid still fresh to the team/country/league be given the same support?

Well...that's another question. Whenever a player of Tel's complexion misses a pen a certain kind of abuse from a certain type of "fan" comes out.

It's as predictable as a clock striking 12 everyday.

Because Tel is ‘the wrong type of player’ and not a 6 foot blonde blue eyed Aryan. I joke, obviously, but only partly

In this day and age, yes 100% agree. But Danny Thomas is black and racism certainly wasn't any 'better' in the 80s...so I find it odd.

Up to the club and other fans to police it and set the tone I think. Hope the stadium gives him a big reception on Saturday -- even bigger than Saka got when we played Arsenal soon after the Euro 2020 final.

Your last paragraph is key, I shamelessly allowed some racism to exist around me at games and if I could have my time again I would have said something and I think its key that it should be called out. I am seeing loads of "I bet they ain't real fans or British" online but why does that matter? Call it out FFS

I'd never criticise for not calling it out individually. That can be really tough and lead to situations most of us wouldn't want to be in. But I think inside the stadium one person speaking up would quickly get support from the majority around them. Set the tone that it's not welcome at our club.

I agree, but you can't also have flippancy to say "well its not us" well it kinda is everyone

Too many people don't want to face up to their being a problem and their first turn is that it doesn't exist

This is why it's sometimes not the best idea to throw young players in early especially in a struggling team. Tel played last season, primarily domestically, when the team had pretty much thrown in the towel and it was an environment where everyone was doomed to fail. Throwing young players in too soon can destroy their careers - I hope it doesn't happen with Tel.

I watched him v Denmark for the U21s in the summer. The lad has talent. He needs proper time to settle to see can he cut it in the PL. Now is no time to be making that judgement.

I f**king hate some football fans sometimes.

Social media is the problem. Inside whl that night everyone sang Danny's name loud & proud as we should.
I am with you I hope Tel gets a good reception on Saturday

In comparison to vdv the timing of his miss was unfortunate, after vdv miss we still had an edge and some momentum.
VDV is also an established and popular player with a catchy tune.
None of those advantages Tel has, nor is it his fault that he doesn't have them.
It's up to the decent fans to make more supportive noise than the knuckle draggers, we do out number them, might not seem like it at times but we do.

While we are not the only club infected with racist pond life, as a black player I would give second thoughts to signing for us if I were in talks with the club right now.

Or a player may recognise that it’s not fans
When you look at some of the profile images there are united fans doing it… so called fans
I’ll add that Ezes interview about social media is brilliant

dont think its the pen thats wrong, you cant blame him for that. But take a look at Tel when he came on, we had run and closed players down all game, he didnt do it once. Ppl said he was fast when he joined, I cant see that, looks like he dont give a damn. In Moore you see the talent in getting past your man.. I realy dont see anything spesial about him.

He did not have a good game, sure. To suggest that he looks like he does not give a dam is crap, but then you are entitled to your opinion.
