Lucas Bergvall

I am not the biggest Bergvall fan and do not see the hype with him. But I'm also not a professional scout or manager so obviously I am wrong when multiple managers keep praising him. For Spurs sake, I hope he turns into the player these managers keep believing he can be but so far we have not see it.

The start of this season has been dreadful, especially for a player who is needed and was given a big chance to stake his claim in midfield.

I'm not talking about finances, the numbers in the sport are outrageous. Good for Bergvall getting paid, I'm all for people earning money to support themselves and family.

The reason I would judge Bergvall harder (Same with Tel, Richy, Gallagher and a few I'm sure I am missing) is he had plenty of time off to recover, is not coming back from a long injury and you would expect him to be one of the better players in those first few games. Instead he was possibly the worst player for us in both games.

I agree, the rest of the players have not been too great either but they at least have a small excuse for a few games (new to the team, injury issues).

My point is we have paid alot of money for alot of players and seemingly going after Bergvall for the poor start seems odd to me.

I get that kind of but for my reasons listed above, the expectations were higher for him. At least to me. And I'm not judging him just off these games, I have been losing faith in him, along with a lot of other players the last two seasons.

He's no different than Sarr to me. Both could be good but I think need a fresh start somewhere else.

You basically expected a 20 year old to carry a still disfunctional team. OK then...

I never said that. I never mentioned results or anything of the sort. But I would expect a player with his experience to not make the same mistakes over and over without looking like he's improving.

I'm not really that bothered by how much we are paying each player individually, I just don't think Bergvall has done anything to earn pay raise in the time he has been with us. I suppose if he was very low paid relatively speaking then maybe he's now on a par with everyone else. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Experience? He's had about a year proper in a Premier League football team (he's made 43 starts.) Two years in total, two years in absolute disfunction. And in that time he's won a European cup and his first season won all of the player of the season awards.

One where he cleaned up the clubs awards as player of the year etc.

The lad is going to be a fine player and this investment in him seemingly shows the club and current management agree.

Let's hope he fulfills his obvious talents
