Lucas Bergvall

Another very good game from him I thought. Long gone is the player who looked immature and not ready for this level a couple of months ago. Talent was always obvious, but now he can be trusted.

Not only playing in different roles in midfield, but playing with different players. Started 11 times for us now in total, but doubt it's more than 2-3 times in any given role with the same players around him in midfield.

Essentially still settling in, but already being really impressive.
Say it quietly... But he could be our Odegaard. The leadership he's showing already is huge. Last night there was a row and he stepped in to break it up. That's ballsy got an 18 year old. His game has come on too, he's not over stretching as much as he was and while there's still the odd rash moment even they see to be less and less.

You don’t have to say it quietly if you're just going to compare him to Odegaard... Admittedly a decent player, but imo Bergvall has the potential to be even better. I'll say it quietly, he's showing why Barca wanted him.

Leadership, balls, technical quality, physicality, composure, intensity. Rarely seen a midfielder so well rounded.

It's rare to see a midfielder break through this early at this level. Usually when it happens it's in one role. He's breaking through playing 2-3 roles.

lol - we just need to teach him how to give Madds and Sonny a rollicking Roy Keane style.

He was superb last night and played with a load of maturity. Kept those wheels turning all game as well, even though his tank was empty. Shame he didn't get the header. He sort of deserved to.

Needs to get himself well rested for the next one. Hopefully we'll have Biss and Sarr able to share the 90 mins with Bents and Berg. Those engine room duties need to be a team sport.

This. ABSOLUTELY this.

It's one thing to have a pointy shouty guy, like Sissoko or Hojbjerg. It's another to have one with the skills to be a true leader. Who can grab a game that's drifting away and exert his will upon it.

Early days yet, but the kid is fearless. I had a few drinks with a Liverpool-supporting mate on Saturday, and he really does not like Bergvall, saying that he's a dingdong. For a fan of a big club, and a very knowledgeable one at that, to already have strong feelings against a teenager who's started just a handful of league games...that's massive.

You could see he had the chops from pretty much his first touch. Same as Mikey Moore. Ange was protecting both at the start of the season or didn't trust them enough. But his hand has been forced and we clearly have 2 prem level players. I can see Bergvall becoming world class and Mikey Moore could end up being a generational talent for us and England. He looks Foden level when he was that age. Moore need to be more protected imo.

Bergvall will be immense for us.

Not just his quality with the ball, but he kept running all game right until the end. Of course, he is young so can argue should be expected but it's great to see the effort he is putting in during a tough period for the team.....

Haha I know a Liverpool fan who says the same thing.

Doing something right if they hate you.

He seems to be growing in statue the more he plays, allways wary about over praising young players but he does look like a very good player and should get even better as he matures.

Hopefully our currently on loan academy players will be receiving such plaudits next season.

On how Lucas Bergvall has dealt with the pressure and demands of playing at this level...

"Outstandingly well. We lose sight of the fact that he's only 18-years-old, but also his previous senior experience is in the Swedish league, so he's come into a different league, obviously a step up in the league level, different country, different environment. As an 18-year-old, for him to be taking such a massive responsibility on his shoulders to not only play, but also try to make an impact for the team, I think has been outstanding.
I'll keep saying it, as tough as it's been, and it's been tough, and still is tough, we're going to get so much benefit from the likes of him and Archie coming through this really not like 18-year-olds, but like men, wanting to help the club through this process, once we hit some calmer waters then we'll truly see them flourish even more. He's been outstanding and it's a credit to him as much as a person as it is as a player that he's tackling this in the way that he has."

Keeps on the path he is and he's gone to be a real star. He's got everything in his game to be a top midfielder.

In him and Gray we appear to have 2 very mature young players, I never thought they would make as much impact as they have this season and to do so in the challenging situation we are in shows character, an invaluable asset.

Bergvall, Gray, Vuskovich looks similar, and Moore plus a decent backup cast of youngsters on loan.

Somehow, out of all the brick the club has done recently, seem to have a touch here.

Not sure if people saw yesterday as a 6-8-10 midfield or two box to box play in Sarr and Bergvall. Even if the latter quite clear that Bergvall had the majority of the creative responsibility in the front third (more of a 10 role).

Think where he is right now (may not be true in the future) he looks better more as a 6 or 8 than in that 10 role.

For me the nr. 6 position would be a bit of waste for him, I think he has goals and assist in his game and personally I see him as a nr 8, where he can go forward more.

Gray as a 6 and Bergvall in the 8 is what I think and hope our future will look like!

It was supposed to be Bentancur sitting, with Sarr and Bergvall ahead... but then Bentancur went sprinting forwards at random so it was more of a "nobody - nobody - three #10s" formation.
Same as against Leicester, literally nobody sat in midfield at times, because Bentancur cannot be trusted to sit in front of the defence. He just races forwards or races out to the sidelines to completely miss a challenge.

That might just be instructions from the manager.

I agree the 8 role is probably the most natural fit for him at this point. And I do agree that he has the quality to both score and get assists.

Do think he has the tools to be really good as a 6 too if developed into that over time. And a great 6 is like gold dust, so don't think it would be a waste. Perhaps for Sweden it would be.
