A midfield 3 of Eriksen - Sandro - Holtby would create more and control the game better than Paulinho and Dembele.
Instead of ****ging of our best player today maybe Mulletperm whould address the fact that we had nothing down our left flank all game
I put this on another thread but it also applies here........
I'll start my rant with a question.....
How many goals have Defoe and Soldado scored (not including the 2 Soldado penalties) in the league in 2013?
The answer almost unbelievably is ONE... Yes, one goal.
It was obvious that playing a lone, small striker was not producing anywhere enough goals so what do we do in the summer......we buy another one. Both Defoe and Soldado are hardly ever on the ball and are no real threat outside the box.
We should have spent £25 million on Benteke - quick, strong, big and six years younger than Soldado. To have not bought a striker of his type is shamefully neglectful and if not rectified in January we have no chance of top four as we are just not, and will not, score enough goals.
There were obviously also other things wrong yesterday which other people have already mentioned so won't repeat all of them but this lack of a real threat upfront has been there since Berbatov left.
I'm sure people will disagree with me but just one league goal from our lone striker in 2013 ( still shaking my head in disbelief as I type ) means something is seriously wrong..
Benteke wont make a difference, just like Ade wont......its not the size or shape of the striker. We are rubbish in the final third at creating, have been for long under AVB
Benteke has scored 4 league goals already this season and got 19 last year. He is playing in a team that in all round play does not create as many chances as us.
The mere fact that he is 8 inches taller than our two strikers means he will win, and score goals from headers and so offer something different -let alone the power and pace in other areas of the pitch....
I am surprised that you think 'size or shape of the striker' will not make any difference!
What utter ****e. Townsend cannot create assists when attacks are not in the box for the tap in. Or maybe you blame Bale for the fact that Defoe scored only 1 league goal in the second half of last season or that Ade did **** all last season. Yeah **** off our best player today, sure you are entitled to your opinion but it is utter tosh
Defoe needs the ball played to feet, not in the air. Is this rocket science? Townsend isnt the only player to blame for Defoe not scoring, quite true, but when did I say he was? By the way, Townsend didnt contribute any asists for Soldado either did he? So right back at yer. I guess you're another poster with a particular player's poster on your wall, thus explaining the angst in your reply.
We have enough shots, we just need to be better at placing them on goal and out of the goalkeeper's reach. We're averaging 17,9 shots a game, that's second in the Premier League as it stands (after Liverpool). We led that statistic up until yesterday, when we only had about 14-15 shots. We need to hit the frame more, we need to be a bit more lucky, and a bit more clinical. Aaaand, we need to want to continue to score goals after we lead by more than one goal (Norwich game, why on earth didn't we just keep on pressuring them for a third and fourth goal?).
I am not a JD basher, but in the Chel$ki game and against Wet Spam he had three GOOD scoring chances and scored none. Hopefully now he'll stop talking himself up and start converting chances against good teams.
we are so obvious, whenever Siggy/Chadli on the left, Townsend/Lamela on the right get the ball 9.5 times out of 10 they will cut inside.....its bolllox, its easy to suss out and thats why teams are able to defend so well and easily against us.
Soldado, Defoe, and Ade will have no decent chances to get on the end of, we no longer flash balls across the box that can cause panic in the opposition defence.
you know what, its pointless playing a striker the way AVB has us set up.....we may as well play 4-6-0, have tonnes of possession, all the time in the world for the attackers to cut inside, ponder, pass, take a pot shot from 25 yards every once in a while, and try to nick games 1-0
West Ham were able to defend well against us, Norwich and Cardiff weren't. Yet to see anyone complaining about the inverted wingers give a good explanation for this.
