Joao Palhinha

Kimmich I understand.
Goeretska isn't better than Bissouma, would struggle in the EPL
Pavlovic - only 21 and Kompany's pick over Palhinha - isn't Pavlovic a more interesting profile ?

Right now Paulinha is living off past hype, he will have to earn my respect.
Every player has to earn respect... not just yours....

At this stage, one can only and simply evaluate - at face value - whether this is a seemingly good transfer... and none of your misgivings make me change my opinion that it is.

I don’t think he has to earn your respect in the slightest nor does he probably want for it.

Seriously if an ex premier league player came back who was excelling that’s made team x buy him in the first place … why should he care?

If TF has identified Palhinha as a player who fits the profile of what we need then that's all that matters tbh. Do like the look of the Carlos Baleba, the 21yr old lad from BHA. One to watch in the future.
It's a good point. If Spurs were about to splash huge money on Baleba or Wharton they wouldn't loan in Palhinha.
Hopefully we'll smash down wads of cash on someone else needed... hopefully.

I really don't think he's for the long-term - it seems to me that the club puts a great deal of hope in Bergvall and Gray to be the long-term solutions in central midfield.

It's more a loan that acknowledges that a) we have a shortage of first-team-ready central midfielders who can defend well enough to shield the backline, and b) Palhinha is available for dirt cheap, and addresses that shortage for the moment. Certainly he's cheaper than Norgaard, who fulfills a similar role and is a similar age but went to the Goons.

It's weird though that this is a consistent trend with players we buy to be pure 'enforcers' - they're never long-term solutions, whether through chance or deliberately. Since 2008, we've signed Palacios, Sandro, Parker, Stambouli, Wanyama, and now Palhinha.

Palacios was the victim of circumstance. Sandro and Wanyama were cripped by injuries early. Stambouli was dirt-cheap bargain bin, and fared accordingly. Parker was a wise old head for a few seasons, and Palhinha might end up being that type too. But none last.

I mentioned him last summer as the one I'd have tried to prise away.
But with Gray, we now have a teacher in Palhinha.

aside from being injury prone, pure enforcers are rather outdated in the modern game with quick transitions and flexible formations - especially seen in teams with high attacking rate.

that's why kompany prefers pavlovic - he is less of a defensive monster compared to palhinha, but has a good and natural progressive. attacking side.

that said i trust in TF's decision - he's done great realizing player potential. however, bergvall and gray have to look to other teachers for the quick transitions and attack skills. a good stop gap and maybe something we needs as we consolidate and strengthen our core in Year I.

sure time will tell as they say

I think his goal scoring rate compares with Rodri over his career and Rodri played most of his career in a team which dominated possession unlike the clubs Palhinha played for. I've not seen enough of him to judge his passing or the quality of team mates or tactics of team he was playing with.
