I agree that the read-only thread needs to be locked and updated by Moderators only else it will descend into the abyss within days as posters cannot exercise that kind of restraint. It's like placing a bucket of KFC infront of DHSF and telling him not to eat any

That's not a bad idea. But, once again, we are reliant on EVERYONE sticking to that rule. (You see what i did there?)

I wouldn't bother trying to quality control it in the slightest.

Journalists, twitter and forum ITKs are all as good or as bad as each other (and are often the same people anyway).

It's more fun to have loads of conversation about how Kaka and Benzema will fit into our team, rather than three posts all window accurately confirming that Andy Carroll and Jonny Howson will be our new arrivals.

For me the issue is the repetition - people posting 'new' stuff in the morning that was already discussed all the previous evening etc.

We could make better use of the topic icons. eg - A big steaming poo as a topic icon for anything from ITK/Twitter sources, a newspaper icon for reporter-based info and a complete ban on anything from Talksport. Ever.

Seriously though, the topic icons could help a lot.

That is very true I am partial to a bucket

For what its worth - if its Levy buying the players then we will get Michu for like 8m and if its AVB we will be getting maybe Moutinho/Willian/Pjanic or something but it all depends if theyre out of CL or not (the first two players anyways)

Other than the rumours one will be a day or two behind, because it takes a while for journalists to find things on Twitter/ITK and write them up using their thesauruses.

I think that a read only thread and individual threads for players we are linked with, rumours, and (if we are very lucky) signings should work well. That way people should be able to follow the discussions that they are interested in and ignore those that they are not.

read only thread get's my backing - im too lazy to go to SC and i don't want to read through page after page of people slagging said info off.

don't particularly see the need for a sub forum - not enough posters imv - a separate thread for discussion should be sufficient. maybe in the summer, where more info/transfers would be about it'd make more sense.

Why did we move away from the separate ITK thread during the last window? There was over a thousand pages and I'd bet 500 of them were posts purely bashing any ITK or those that posted it here, just makes no sense on any level to have the two in the same thread as the same group of users cannot help themselves and have to tell us every 5 minutes what a waste of time it is. It was just an absolute mess.

I agree about the summer window having more activity, but I still think it's wortwhile to give this a try. The player threads might encourage more discussion on their individual merits, while making the main discussion easier to follow.

All rumours come from either journos (papers) or ITK. The question is: Do we want the ITK separated from the other stuff?
