That's rewriting history a little bit there mate, it was quite obvious Bale had something to him ..

Yeah, there's a degree of revisionism going on there. I vividly recall an interview with Robbie Keane right in the middle of Bale's "cursed period" where he insisted Bale was going to be one of the best players in the world some day. And while there were a few raised eyebrows, most people felt he wasn't far off the truth. Even then.

No Bale didn't set the world alight for a few seasons; but most of us felt he would do eventually. That's really not the case with Townsend. I love his commitment to the club, and if he was willing to go into the season knowing he's a squad player; willing to warm the bench in the premiership (initially at least, while he tries to force his way into the first team); then I'd be happy to keep him. But he's good enough to be starting for Leicester or West Brom... and I get the feeling he's determined to play regularly, so that might sway him.

Think you're being harsh on Townsend there, he'd get in most teams up to the europa places, maybe even Southampton as well.

Probably. I kind of meant he'd be a "first name on the team-sheet" sort of player for Leicester or West Brom. He'd be a star at either club. At Southampton I think he'd find himself in rotation. All just IMO though. Who the feck actually knows for sure!? ;-)

JJetset on Martial:

We are looking for strikers from OS [Overseas] ;0) or whatever I said.....

So you're not poo pooing this one........

Absolutely no pooh poohing on this but annoyed with his agent for leaking !!

Grey Fox:

Can confirm what JJ has posted , club angry that agent has leaked this they are fearing being gazumped ala Willian.

Re Trix update 12 and the German cryptic, from what I have heard that should be the French Connection

Do these guys live in the real world?.... In any transfer the agent of the player will contact potential interested parties to try to get their client the best possible deal.

I think this reads as the club hierarchy (i.e. Spurs Board etc) are annoyed that his agent is leaking the details. And that sounds VERY realistic

it reads like he's trying to claim knowledge of a deal that looks to be a goer but he had no clue of

This Martial interest sounds like deja vu. I bet we have figured out what fee they would accept and can chat to the player etc. BUT his agent knows they have all summer to wait and see what other clubs they could drum up.

Could be one of them where he goes to PSG, Bayern etc. in August and then we have a meltdown asking why Levy didn't just sort the deal out early blah blah..

Bale always had that something. Played out of position, bad run with injuries and just plain bad luck didn't help. You could see with some of what he did in games, he was a class above the others on the pitch.

Hugo may leave. I dont think any of us would begrudge him a move to Man Utd. He's been a great keeper for us, very dedicated, and deserves to play at the top level. We will be handsomely rewarded should he depart.
Bentaleb is going nowhere.

it will be a world record for a goalkeeper if he goes (buffon 32.6 M)

Once De Gea is gone they will get their chequebook out. LVG made Hugo his number 1 target after he played a blinder against them in December.

not actually bothered about Hugo going.

Hope we get a 6ft 4 keeper as replacement.

Wow .. Without him last year we would have finished bottom half and struggled even with Harry's goals .. Where is ambition if we sell to a rival. , end of ... Under no circumstances must he be sold to anyone in premier ..Madrid barca or psg fair enough otherwise United and their media cronies can fudge right off , it's getting tiresome now . Every comment getting slanted by United fan press

I don't think Hugo will go to Manure personally. As much as they want to wave their moneyc0cks around, do they REALLY want Levy to bend them over a coalface as they hand over 50M?
Nah, don't think so....

Nothing to do with the fact that i have got a bet with a Gooner on him NOT going to Manure by 1st Sept 2015

If (when!) it happens, I hope it happens early instead of being dragged out over the entire summer. At least we can then bring in a quality replacement (such as Begovic) and move forward as a club. The worry I have is that Vorm was signed as Lloris' replacement and, while he is a brilliant number 2 keeper, I don't think he is good enough to be our number 1.

I don't begrudge Lloris a move but Man U can fudge off! Living off past glories just because they finished 6 points ahead of us last season. Their performances were often a mess last season & I wouldn't say that they were so far ahead of us at the moment.

Yes, I know they're a big/huge club but why do we always have to submit to their wishes?! About time that all that nonsense stopped.

Additionally, if he does leave it will further weaken my love for the game. Will be obvious that teams can perform well briefly but then Man U/Real Madrid/Barca take their players & it's back to square one again. How are we meant to compete if we keep selling our best players?

I guess you're my age or a bit older... well I accepted that the sixties and seventies - when a player would be sold only if the club wanted to - are now over, mate. If Lloris wants to go, he will - especially as I am sure that a gentleman's agreement to this effect was the only reason he signed an extension last year... enabling us to get maximum dosh for him.

How are we meant to compete if we keep selling our best players?

In the same way the likes of Seville and Atletico compete - by an excellent scouting network to replace those sold with adequate replacements - if not at individual level at least on the overall team
