We have a world class goalkeeper we should be doing all we can to keep him . Every summer any player who had unreal season is getting sold to United or Madrid . Really have to nip theses things in bud .. We are a top 5 club .. Levy should come out as leader of our club and say under no circumstances no matter who they are will sign for a direct rival , end of ! They don't sell to us , Chelsea don't and Liverpool don't why should we .. ? And if such a player gets bricky about it tell him tough , if u wNna leave u go Abroad

They may have won far more if they had hung onto some of those players. Just look at the last few years where they've been buying top pros rather than selling them, and now they have two more FA cups in the trophy cabinet.

Only club they sold to was Emirates Marketing Project or United for mad amounts of money for players either out of contract or a year left . That's different to a player on 4 or 5 year deal ! Plus the big big players all sold abroad .. Rvp had one great season and one season injury free so it was obvious he would not sign deal do they sold !! Knowing what we know now great business to get of adebayor when that time came and likes of clichy and nasri similiar contract issues .. That's my opinion anyway .. If u wanna be a top club you simply don't make rivals way way stronger .. United got top 4 due to results against us Liverpool City and not huge gap between us ... How many points did de gea win them last season .. A serious amount of points .. They don't have that this coming season .. Let's not give them loris to take his place

i hear what you are saying, i would rather Lloris or any of our top players be sold abroad as im sure Levy would, but as i said in the Lloris thread maybe just maybe we are prepared to let Hugo go to Utd because we are very confident about bringing in a top class replacement. Thats the only way of justifying it.

For me Lloris is the best keeper I have seen since Ray Clemence.

If you mean at Spurs I agree, although he is a way behind Pat and Clem in the list. As I said before he is a good keeper but we do tend to overate him with the " best in the prem" " world class" talk.

i think he's probably some way off the best in the game and in a big group of similar quality level players, of which we can probably find someone not already at a big club. i like him, but i don't think he's irreplaceable by any means

The problem is that players (and agents) have a lot more power now and we will struggle to retain our top players if we cannot match the wages paid by the biggest clubs.

It is also all very well saying that we should not sell to a direct rival but if we are talking about a world record fee for a keeper for Lloris, how many non-Premier League clubs could afford that?

Courtois, Cech (?), De Gea ....... not sure who else you would rank above him in the prem. Can't think off the top of my head of anayone I would happily swap him with. He might not be the best but he is up there. I think some people possibly under rate him because we see him week in week out and see more of his weaknesses than they do with the other keepers unless it is aa MoTD clanger.

Such as? Not a pop at you but I'm not that clued up on non-PL players as many so would benefit from a list of these if you could.

I agree, sell abroad if at all possible, but if we start playing hardball um...... Too hard, won't that also affect our future signings, and our present players, signing extensions?

@Lost Mango Neither am i - but just looking at the prem i think he's some way behind DeGea / Coutois /Hart and in the next group - if you extrapolate across all the leagues in Europe/World football then it's not hard to imagine there's plenty of similar quality out there.

I think supporters have a tendency to over rate their own teams goalkeeper as the watch them week in week out and see the vital saves he makes - don't get me wrong i think he's a great goalkeeper, and certainly GK is at the bottom of my 'need to strengthen' list - but i think we can make a side step there in terms of quality whilst making a big profit to strengthen other, more important, areas

Lloris way ahead of courtois purely because be isn't susceptible to shot from distance like Courtois

Similarly Hart doesn't command the area in the same league at Lloris

de Gea this season has been exceptional and had been the best in the league, however he needs to do that for more than one season

Hugo has very little in the way of weaknesses, maybe his kicking.

The problem is that players (and agents) have a lot more power now and we will struggle to retain our top players if we cannot match the wages paid by the biggest clubs.

It is also all very well saying that we should not sell to a direct rival but if we are talking about a world record fee for a keeper for Lloris, how many non-Premier League clubs could afford that?

Tell that to the chairman of Southampton who avoided selling schneiderlin or Liverpool who avoided selling Suarez to arsenal 2 seasons ago. It can be done levy did it himself with modric.

It can be done but it is not without complications. With the wrong player (I am not saying that Lloris is this) it could cause unrest in the dressing room. It could also have an impact on recruiting players. Part of the appeal of a player signing for us will be be using us as a stepping stone to a bigger club, if we stand in the way of those moves, then the club may be less attractive to perspective players.

As it happens, I think that the Lloris quotes are being used selectively by the press and websites and my guess is that he will still be with us next season.
