ITK Thread

Let's just hope Eriksen, Chadli and Kane can carry the goal burden for the rest of the season then.

In what sense? Since his first season and long lay off through injury Benteke looks half the player he was, whilst Bony has gone from strength to strength and is currently looking the much better player

I don't agree. Benteke has much more about him. He has just come back from a long layoff and is slowly getting back to his best. He would offer us so much. Big strong target man, good in the air and a finisher and provider. Is still young and would fit in well with our Belgian contingent. I would swop him for Ade, Paulie and Capoue in a heartbeat.

This .. Benteke, Bony, Lukaku have all failed to push on, too expensive ... rather spend 25-30M on a truly class midfielder and keep Kane/Soldado and pick up another young/promising striker somewhere.

This. Taking some advice from our recent experience with buying expensive players - maybe taking the pressure off of a player by not paying a ridiculous fee for him will allow him to become more relaxed and a better player sooner rather than later. Instead of paying 25 mill for Bony or Benteke, who Swansea and Villa both got for nothing a few seasons back, find those young guys and try them out. Worth the risk if the price is good. I wouldn't spend 25 mill on Bony nor Benteke.

We have a plethora of talented youngsters at the club. What we need is a solid spine of experienced professionals we can rely on. That is what we are sorely missing. Benteke has that quality imo. He is not such a gamble as he has been there and done that already in the premiership - and for a struggling team, done it virtually singlehanded unlike say Bony where the entire team is shaped to assist him - rather like Bent.

Villa sit back with 9 men and punt long balls towards Benteke. That's their entire game plan. That's not the kind of football we play or even want to see. I don't want a big lump of a target man, but someone more all round, like Van Persie or maybe Costa (preferably not at their level of clamishness).

I'm not Benteke's biggest fan but he is certainly more than this. He seems to have a bit of skill and can run with the ball too. Also a good finisher from what I have seen and you'd have to think he'd could do so much more with better service. Sure it may not work out, but basically every player you buy is a gamble to some extent, especially for the market we operates in. Berbatov was a gamble, Modric was a gamble and probably moreso than Benteke would be. I was convinced that Soldado would be a hit when we bought him after having watched him (and coveted him) for years at Valencia. But for various reasons his form has deserted him and he's being outshone by a 21 year lad from the academy. There is no sure thing in football, but I would be willing to take a chance on Benteke, or Bony for that matter.

Like who exactly ?

Spot on.

I really really really don't like Baines. I think he screams average. Cahill I could take or leave.

Baines is well above average. He's a proven international-quality left-back with an excellent engine and delivery. I'm not sure I'd take him now, but a season or two ago he'd have been an excellent signing. Cahill is a top-quality centre-back and a fixture in probably the best team in the country right now.

It's a bit like saying you could take or leave Oscar or Eden Hazard.

No its not, thats a ridiculous thing to say, especially regarding Hazard who would walk into most teams in the world.Cahill is an average centre back playing in the best team in the country, Bains is a good left back but not so good id want us to splash any cash on him, especially as hes over 30 now.

Looking at him as a LB he doesn't strike me as anything beyond solid/decent (which isn't a bad thing by any means). But his set pieces up until a season or two back have been exceptional (I havent looked into the stats but I dont notice him scoring as much now, could be wrong?) which means he gets far more accolades than your standard LB would...

Never seen Baines have a good game against us - so that probably skews my opinion of him

Reminds me of Downing, highlight reel player with one or two good seasons in his career.

Honestly very cagey about any Everton players, they have a set system and not many excel when they leave that system.

Not sure what your point is. I'm glad we didn't spend anything on those 4.

Glad we did not sign Young, Cahill, Barry, Baines? Of sure! Seeing as the players we currently have playing in those same positions are such renowned world class.... ](*,)

Talk about delusions of grandeur....

Young when he left Watford, maybe. Been a mixed bag since, especially at United.

Cahill for the amount Chelsea paid would have been great in hindsight, but at the time he was no more than good. Couldn't get into the first team at Villa as recently as 2008.

Barry, was overpriced, now he's just old.

Baines for 30 million or Davies for 10? Davies easily.
