ITK Thread

I'm guessing that that is Marley Bishop? There was some itk (or a press article - I can't remember which) a month or two ago saying that he would be joining us in January.

Your info would seem to confirm our interest, at least.

Spoke to the guy I know yesterday and it seems a lot of clubs are really interested in this young guy and the is a buzz about him. All I heard is about offering a trial but then most clubs apparently trial around 10 players a season and that never gets to be public knowledge. I would never be told information about a "proper" signing as the guy I know is not on that level.

But I do get told little bits from time to time about youth matters and also how the clubs is run in general terms. Things like parents having to sign wavers to allow their children to be filmed to their performances can be analysed. This is 7 and 8 year olds we are talking about. Quite interesting for me hearing about what goes on behind the scenes, particularly as I haven an interest in Tottenham and also knowing people at Brighton.

but not what you all prob want to know i.e. ins and outs.
Levy was after Benteke but AVB said is we're spending that sort of money I'd rather have Soldado.

Half-time team talks are delayed till Poch spends 5 mins with the stats analysts first. The team talk among themselves till he comes in. Had row with Lennon at HT against Chelscum for not tracking back. AL argued that he was, till Poch got the screen in and showed him. AL apologised.

Thinks it will be difficult to shift Soldudo and Ade in Jan as they're both too expensive. Seems like Jackson is someone that's liked, but think that was just his opinion not from the horses mouth as it were.

Johnnie?

Fits the profile. Home grown, leadership attributes (current Charlton captain), decent back-up for Bentaleb, Mason and Stambouli.

Jackson of Charlton!!!!!!!!! Gilzean look pretty fit the other day and he's got to be as quick as Jackson maybe Mabbsy would fancy a game. People drink far too much this time of the year.

Speaking of strikers its obvious he was talking about Johnnie Jackson. Or wait, maybe Jackson Martinez? Hmm

Not as bad as the other Jackson would be. He was one of the worst footballers that we've had play for us.

Would rather have Michael Jackson. When he was black obviously as he had two good feet back then. Although I seem to recall he was a West ham fan, something about forever blowing Bubbles .........

Johnny Jackson?! :ross: He was terrible for us back in the day, one of the worst players I've ever seen play for Spurs. Would just be ridiculous if we wanted him in.

Seriously?.... Action Jackson was brilliant for us under Pleaty and he has been absolutely ripping it up for Charlton in a very difficult league. I think he'll be one of the hottest prospects up for grabs this January. I just hope we can secure him ahead of a few of the other clubs who want him.

I really really really hope this is true!

[Update 15] Galahad The Gnome re: Mitchell

Who: Galahad The Gnome
When: 18/12/14
Where: COYS

A small update containing nothing especially exciting or unexpected .... which, given the recent turmoil, might be a good thing..

Early impression of Mitchell is of a very hard worker who is focused on producing two lists of names asap; one list of players for the first team squad that will fit MP's scheme, and the other of younger players to develop for the future. Some/many of the latter he had already earmarked while at Southampton. People around the club have been impressed at the thoroughness with which he collects and analyses player metrics.

He is expected to submit his list by the end of the weekend, then discussions will take place as to the feasibility of those targets for this window and the summer window, after which the player acquisition team will have a distilled list of targets for the upcoming window.

His marching orders include identifying at least two names for the first team squad that are viable targets for January.

At this stage there's not a great deal of confidence within the club that the half dozen players who MP would like to trim from the squad are of interest to other clubs at a price that is acceptable to DL, or (in one case) at a wage that is acceptable to the player. The more of them that can be moved on, the more players we can target.

So what is Baldini tasked with? Wooing the players and selling the club to them once identified? I thought he'd be good at researching younger players via his network.

Being Mitchell's boss and delegating things to him?

Mitchell is a stats guy, whereas Baldini is more a sheepskin (well, finest leather) coat guy and you'd imagine is better at the more strategic overview thing that overly technical people often struggle with.

We've just been talking in the Bony thread about Baldini's 3 young player signings from last summer - Azzaoui, Yahaya and Lazar. So he obviously is still operating in that arena.

All of the reports from when Mitchell joined said that he was not reporting to Baldini.

My understanding was that Baldini and Broomfield are tasked with finding and making recommendations to Mitchell who will assess them.

Rebecca Caplehorn would lead in negotiations.

I think that’s underestimating the role of a DoF. A DoF is effectively Head of Football Operations. Academy, Scouting, Coaching, Medical and Secretariat are all departments that come underneath a DoF.

The not reporting to Baldini stuff was just from the usual media dinotards who hate foreign stuff like DoFs

Rebecca Caplehorn is just club secretary (John Alexander and Darren Eales’ ex-role). She sorts the paperwork like contracts, not negotiations

The not reporting to Baldini stuff came from the club. I agree that DoF's usually have a broader brief, the Greg Stobart piece earlier this week said that Baldini didn't. The Stobart piece also said that Caplehorn has a broader brief than Eales and will take the lead in negotiating with clubs and agents.

I have read that Eales negotiated deals for some players (can't remember where). Probably when we were working on several at the same time. You don't need a DoF to send faxes or deal with the clauses and finer points, but in terms of buying players he is very useful as a go between with agents and using his network to get the info you can't get from watching someone play.
