I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

It is a clever deal and should creates value for everyone. In isolation it wouldn't work: if we were offered £8m, with him wanting to stay, he is worth more to us as a squad player. He's got the tools to contribute 5-15 goals a season, but we all know he is not consistent mainly because of injuries. But add in this new signing, and it all makes sense to us. A discounted highly-rated talent and freed up wages.

For Lamela it is a chance for a refresh. He should be able to start games and build some form. His card was marked here. Maybe there he can reestablish himself. We all know he's capable of great things, the issue has always been consistency and maintaining it. He plays each game like there is no tomorrow, and often there wasn't as he'd be out injured. More mature now, if Sevilla keep him fit, he can contribute a lot to them.

Well Eric, I remember when you first came, all doughy eyed with so much promise of potential. You were one of the magnificent seven, you and Christian I had the highest hopes for.

You were not comfortable in your first year, you were unsure of your surroundings, people wrote you off but I could see the talent, could see the promise.

whenever I watch the game I love, I feel the most for a player where I watch them and think at any moment the could produce something amazing, exquisite, something magical that reminds me why I fell in love with the game.

You were that player Eric, you could produce the ridiculous, the sublime, it was amazing to see you live, particularly in 15/16 season which was probably your best for us.

you didn’t achieve the heights I thought you would, but I know you suffered terribly from injuries, and I’m sure at many points you felt like giving up, but you didn’t because you are an immense bloody fighter!

I know you put your body on the line for us, and gave us minutes on the pitch when you probably shouldn’t of, it’s a travesty we never saw the full potential because of those terrible hip problems.

regardless I have so many amazing memories to cherish that you left, you gave everything to this club and that’s why the majority of Spurs fans will ALWAYS have a soft spot for you.

you called Wheelchair a little P-u-say, you stuck it to Fabregas, another annoying twerp! You got the rivalry, thank you for that.

bless you coco, enjoy the sunshine and thank you so much for amazing memories and fighting for my club like I would have liked to.

The last line of the penultimate paragraph sums it up for me.

Lamela played for Spurs the way I would (if I had even a fraction of the required talent).

another line that rings a bell with me. I feel, maybe unfairly(?), that a lot of our players over the years haven’t got the rivalries. Our results/performances away to Arsenal and Chelsea in the last 15/20 years have been appalling. Now I’m not suggesting we should be winning those games more than we lose or anything, but the record and performances suggest a lack of understanding or bottle for the derby fight.

As a few others have said, if the whole squad had Lamela’s will to win then we’d have surely won something with the talent we’ve had in the recent past.

Were our results the 20 years against arsenal much better? We lost more than we won. Chelsea not counting before the oligarch came in and changed football. Even the 70's arsenal won more.

Arsenal were way better than us in the 90’s, early 00’s. Chelsea in the late 90’s and 00’s. We became half decent in the mid 00’s and beyond which is why I didn’t suggest we should have been winning those away matches for the last 30 years, only that we should have been giving a good account of ourselves when we became decent and had a team to compete.

Sad to see him go but these feels like a good deal for all parties!

Mind you I'd probably keep him over alli who I feel is sadly never going to recover the form 0f his early career.
 
A player who when he started you wondered whether he would be at it, but when he came off the bench you always sat up thinking "something might happen here".

On the whole a nice guy who had dodgy hips and still managed to forge a career with the club which puts him in the "legend for loving the badge" collection of players - bit like Michael Dawson and Ryan Mason.

Way better player than Mason or Dawson (we saw their ceilings, we only got glimpses of Lamela when he would get a decent run in side)

I think he will shock some people in Sevilla, hope someone gave the message to their players to ear their shin pads in training.

Different positions so hard to compare but I’d say Dawson should at least as much as Lamela, if not more. Lamela is the last of S Club 7 to leave the club. He’s how I would rank them in terms of how they performed for Spurs

1. Eriksen - easy one. No contest. A class player
2. Shagger Chadli - somewhat of an underrated player. Had flaws but scored goals too. Sold because he perhaps didn’t work as hard as Poch wanted him too. And tbf Son was a huge upgrade.
3. Lamela
4. Capoue
5. Soldado
6. Paulinho - the tropical Frank Lampard as described by Tim Vickery.
7. Chiriches - car crash of a player
