Hugo Lloris

Not sure about the goal, would need to see it back. But Hugo pulled off at least 2 if not 3 good saves in that second half I thought? The walkabout was a strange one but I did think he was favourite for it when he came initially and eventually he’d come so far he couldn’t stop.

The walk about was nuts. Not needed and risky
The saves were typical Hugo saves, ones he makes because he can
His kicking was ok too
What I did like was his throws which he used a few times

Beaten too easily by Edwards' shot, went haywire again and ended up stranded out by the corner flag, made some magnificent saves to keep us in it, had some dubious clearances.

Typical performance by his recent standards - all over the gaff. But anything would have been better than the Saudi Sportswashing Machine horror show, and concur with @Bedfordspurs that his throws were a goddamn relief compared to his kicking, and I hope he uses them more going forward.

It's strange with the throws as i remember that being a standout feature of his game when at Lyon
He’s a different keeper to the Lyon version. Remember when he first arrived he’d basically live on the edge of the 18 yard box and rush out all the time (I know after this week people will say what’s changed!). He became much more cautious in that regard after a couple of years in the Prem. Going from Friedel to Lloris it was night and day, 2 very different styles.

There’s no doubt he’s been one of our greatest keepers, he’s just a bit too scatty now though IMO. Sun seems to be setting on his career here.

The sweeper keeper used to be one of his biggest strengths and rarely got it wrong when he did. Now he rarely does it and mostly gets is wrong when he does.
In fairness, since Poch we've played deeper so there's probably less opportunity for him to do it.

Nice post-match comment:

"Yes, it's a good victory. The Marseille whistles? I'm used to it, you know. They insult me with all names, but when I save France at the World Cup, they'll all suck my dingdong."
That might explain some of his rushes of blood to the head......

Apparently we're looking at Sanchez at Brighton, Meslier at Leeds and, wait for it.... Pickford. We really like Sanchez, but Pickford would be the easiest to get as his contract is running down. He's excellent with the ball at his feet and would be perfect for Conte.

Shame the rest of his game is utter toss.

Sanchez would be a great replacement, good shot stopper, great on crosses, quick off his line and great distribution with both feet. He's only 24 as well so will get better.
Reckon he would cost 50m+ though.

Reckon he'll definitely do till the end of his contract (summer 2024). He's still in the top 10 in the world, and there's no way we'll prioritise a GK signing when there's much bigger priorities.

If we have identified a target for a long term replacement we might just have to get him when the opportunity is there and not risk losing out to another club down the line.

He's not, it's debatable if he's even in the top 10 in the premier league. He used to be a top goalkeeper but not anymore and we need to get a replacement in.
Until we have a goalkeeper than can distribute the ball properly then we are always going to struggle playing out from the back.

Yes, ideally they would overlap for a year, like happened with Friedel and Lloris.

Go on - name 10 in the world better.

I'd give you Alisson, Neuer and Donnarumma. But to me Lloris is the best of the rest after that, marginally ahead of Oblak, Courtois and Ter Stegen.

Been impressed by Meslier to be honest, still learning but at 22 is the right age to push on and improve.
I'm in two minds about him. He pulls off some excellent saves but I've also seen him have some howlers. It might just be inexperience but equally I'm not sure that a 22 year old keeper is the right thing for a club of our standing and ambition.

If you really believe that Lloris is better than Oblak, Courtois, and Ter Stegen then there's no point in saying anything else as those rose tinted glasses are way too thick.
