Hugo Lloris

I feared he'd have a bad night when he fumbled the early one but he pulled off 1-2 worldies and a few other very good stops last night. He was the only player deserving of anything above a 5 out of 10 last night and he was probably an 8 or 9.

Legend. Be a f**king travesty if he leaves here without a medal or two. Wouldn't swap him for anyone.
Really? What about with Diogo Costa? He will probably be starting for Portugal between the sticks during the World Cup (and the foreseeable future beyond).

In spite of yesterday, I wouldn’t swap him. Lloris is still a top keeper for me and he showed us loyalty at a time when he was world class and we were a mess. That shouldn’t be discarded. As long as he can still perform to a good level, he can stay as long as he likes in my view.

Are there better keepers out there? There are a few. I’d still keep Hugo though.

I wouldn't want to sell him either but the way I see it, his profile is too high to be content with sitting on the bench even if we got someone much better in. By the way, I know Lloris has had a few poor performances sprinkled in with some good ones recently but this tends to happen at least once a season.

Speaking of French keepers, seems like we and Man Ure are being linked with Mike Maignan. I actually don't know much about him but he's supposed to be pretty good. Might start seeing him instead of Lloris as France's #1 in the near future.

If Lloris has too much time to think, he will mess up. Excellent with the instinctive stuff, not so good when it comes to decision making. Did he have that drawn, "I'm about to cry" look look after the first goal?

We've seen this kind of mistakes in the past. We know he will make some of them.

One of the great things about Lloris is that he very rarely goes on a poor spell because of it. Doesn't let his confidence drop. Keeps trying the difficult things too, doesn't get scared of making another mistake.

Really strong mentality in that regard. I expect him to be really good and important for us again come the next game and the one after that. Another mistake will come, we can be certain of that of course.

Overall he’s been a great servant to the club. I do feel though that it is time for start planning for his replacement. He’s made 5 errors that have either lead to goals this season or that we’re directly his fault; West Ham with his poor distribution, two against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, sloppy goalkeeping against Arsenal for the 2nd goal and Frankfurt similar story. That’s 5 just off the top of my head, we’re still only in October! I’m not forgetting all the saves he makes and points he saves us but most (if not all) keepers make saves. It’s the decision making, distribution etc that separates the top keepers from the rest. Can’t really call yourself a top keeper if you can’t kick a ball.

And for me that is why ( imo) he can not really be classed in the same breath as Jennings or Clemence. Of course ALL keepers make mistakes but he has faults (Kicking his biggest) that he keeps repeating. It beggers belief ( imo) that after all these years of being a keeper he is unable to kick/pass a ball out well.

I suppose that's just his level. Also, seeing other ball-playing keepers makes the other, "safer" keepers look a bit more average.

Lloris is a top keeper but because he has faults which crop up on a regular basis stops him from being a great one ( imo). Of course ALL keeper make mistakes but as i have said before he has a weakness with the ball at his feet and i am sure the better opposition managers will take advantage of it. I agree with you that is his level though and i accept that his saves are special quite often.

If Lloris would add at least 10 yards (or even metres) to every kick upfield, I would be very happy. His distribution is woeful, and it's usually because he is trying a delicate floaty chip, rather than hoofing it. If we 're going to lose possession, let it be as far from goal a possible.

But that would get complained about too. I’d rather be threw it more TBH as that’s his most accurate distribution

We’ve seen him come out of these ruts before, but we’ve also seen the chaos spiral he got into under Poch.

Needs to be dropped, it scared him straight when Gazzaniga was bought in.

I spoke about him as a decent target for us previously.
