On a hunch I had a look at lloris' numbers and with regards to his 'outside of the box defensive actions' and 'average distance of defensive actions' his numbers have dropped quite dramatically since the first year they have on record (2017-2018)
2017-2018
'outside of the box defensive actions'
91st percentile
'average distance of defensive actions'
91st percentile
2018-2019
'outside of the box defensive actions'
43rd percentile
'average distance of defensive actions'
65th percentile
2019-2020
'outside of the box defensive actions'
2nd percentile
'average distance of defensive actions'
2nd percentile
2020-2021 so far
'outside of the box defensive actions'
20th percentile
'average distance of defensive actions'
22nd percentile
A slight improvement this season after his sweeper keeper stats non-figuratively dropped off a cliff. It does make me wonder if this gradually disinclination for Lloris to leave his area was a part cause of our defensive frailities as we relied heavily on him to mop up any balls played over the top. Or is it a lack of trust in his defence that made him sit on his line more often? Either way it does support the argument that lloris no longer plays the way he did at his very best and maybe even suggests hes no longer capable? [emoji848]
