Hugo Lloris

So why wasnt he playing in a big club at that time?

He never got tested at the top level, Champions League and International games. If he was that good, Friedel would not have been playing for Blackburn for that long.

I have to say that Friedel is probably unlucky not to have played at a bigger club in his prime and I think Jaaskelainen was probably unlucky he didn't get a bigger break as well.

I definitely rate Friedel above the pony tailed fool (most over rated keeper EVER).

Seaman was FANTASTIC for Arse and England year after year. He should have retired 2 years earlier. We hated him for good reason.

I appreciate 82 percent of your posts are deliberately inflammatory and go against the tide to spark debate, but...

i'm not sure why people are mentioning van der saar as a great keeper?

the irony is that people mention him as though he was on the same planet as keepers like shmiechel....

Yeah, he sucked at Ajax and Juventus. Didn't he receive his CL medal in the mail? People are mentioning Van Der Sar as a great keeper because it's a fact.

I was saying the other day i think Seaman was easily one of, if not the, most over rared keepers in the prem. won so many caps for England as there was no one else.

I don't understand why anyone replies to him.

A keeper I haven't seen mentioned is Cudicini. Now maybe not for us so much, but when he was first choice at Chelsea he was incredible. Remember that save against Berbatov?! Worldy.

And Seaman... I think it's pathetic when people can't see past his poor choice in club and say he was a fantastic goalkeeper.

Surely the right thing to do is for AVB to make the tough call and go for Lloris from now on in. I don't think there are many here that actually believe we could suffer from putting LLoris in right now, I bet there are more that think we would be better off with Lloris than Friedel from the off.. So even if you want to argue about it from a short term perspective there isnt much in it. From a long term perspective there isn't any argument at all, LLoris if not right now then next season is a better option than Friedel . If that means tinkling Friedel off (for the good of the club in the long term onwards, which isnt that long - next season) then that is what AVB has to do to earn his money.

Starting Lloris in the PL is all about timing. It will happen soon I have no doubt but AVB has to manage the situation considering all the factors, of which there are many.

IMO the overriding factor has to be what is best for Spurs. If dropping Friedel immediately is the best thing then go for it, but maybe dropping someone who has been playing well would cause disharmony in the group that may be counter-productive to a degree. From this distance we are not in a position to judge how this move would play out, but if and when the change happens I'd really like not to hear Friedel mouthing off in the press about it. I think he is better than that but I do prefer these things to be sorted out in private.

van der sar was unreal at United, tbf

but you have to ask yourself if that was because of his team....at fulham he didnt actually look special at all...and in all honesty was bypassed by quite a few teams...united went after him after trying to find the right keeper fo a while..

yeah, again ...no so sure...schmeicel for instance was genuinely a match winner and displayed his supreme ability..in short he was great

you mentioned Van der saar on two super teams. its good for his pedigree but i dont know how it adds to his greatness as a goal keeper and what he actually does.

plus its pretty stupid to say that he sucked at ajax and juve.

edit:-, i can see the difficulty for me though, him playing for these great teams is counting against him becuase he didnt look that good when playing for fulham in what i think he must have felt would be his last days in football.

best teams try to get the best talent much like van der saar was in demand when he was younger but i feel sometimes that's down to pedigree and marketing as much as anything else.

for instance the dutch keeper stekelenberg or something...he nearly went to united and i have no idea why. he isnt really that good in my personal view....which is most likely wrong

definately dont see Van der saar as a grreat keeper..a decorated one sure

Valdes at Barca is another guy i think falls into this scenario

Just saw barthez comments. I normally don't comment on such crap but when disrespected by someone I don't respect I must.

Barthez was ignorant, disrespectful and out of order to mention my name.

82%? More like 5% actually!

And for me he was a big game choker throughout his career. FA Cup semi 91, Gazza's free kick (great free kick, but he should have saved it as he saw it from a loooooong way out and was just flat footed). Koeman, free kick. Nayim, halfway line etc etc.

Okay then, who has been close to or better than VdS in terms of skill and consistency for the last twenty years? Casillas? Given? Buffon? Friedel?

TWENTY years?!! wow cant be that difficult i hope...

so going back to 1990? that adds alot of possibilities...you sure you dont want to shorten it? and considering your mentioning guys that came to popularity on in this millenium i can see why you would hink van der saar is great.....a wild guess and i would say you're a young man

but either way...i'l give it a go
