On Gray not knowing what’s behind him…that’s nonsense. As a footballer, you have to check your shoulder constantly. It’s what the great players do so they know where they’re playing it before they even get it. If I’m not wrong, Gray did check his shoulder before getting the ball. He made a mess of it, not Vicario. It’s unfortunate, he’s a young lad who will make those mistakes but if that was Bentancur or Pahlinha, no one would be making any excuses for them.

No blame on Vicario for the first. As for the second…
 
He is a terrible goalkeeper, we desperately need an upgrade, at this point id take a Brad Friedel esq signing for a season whilst we find a new first choice, just a steady keeper and not someone that flaps around

But honestly Gomes was very decent. I remember one CL run with PSV he was unreal, was unrelated against us. Multiple award winning. Was it 09/10 when he was a ridiculous level for us? Watford player of the year

All in all a much more dependable and decorated keeper than Viccy will ever be TBH

The season we got CL he was incredible, the save from RVP free kick against Arsenal was unreal

Gomes was immense the 1st season we made CL. See a lot of people say Vicario is a great shot stopper, but Gomes was a level above.

I’m in camp “We need to replace Vicario” btw. Can’t be making that many mistakes unless your are exceptional at everything else.

When that mistake was made in a game very recently you don't do it again. That's on Vic.
Gray done his job, he ran and pulled an opponent with him leaving space in behind him for us to exploit, again on Vic.
Vic can CLEARLY see what's behind gray, gray can't.
Not absolving gray as he could have hoofed it or played it towards vdv, he chose the worst possible alternative, however in my opinion he should never have been put in that situation.

Good Gomes is the best goalkeeper we ever had, effectively a brick wall.

Crazy Gomes was still better than most, but always capable of the ridiculous.

Gomes was capable of absolutely world class saves. He was a bit dodgy but 2010/12 I think he was very solid but because he started a bit flaky that was the narrative attached to his name.

I don't mind Vicario, he's a great short range reaction stopper but I don't think he's capable of making the simply ridiculous saves that Gomes often made.
