General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

I was initially sceptical when it was mentioned a couple of weeks ago, but the more I think about it the more I like the idea of getting in Klose.

Yes, he's in the twilight of his career, but he has the experience and nous to do well in the PL imo and I don't think he would object to becoming more of a squad player either. The main reason though would be what he can do to the whole squad (the elder statesman who can still put in a good shift a la Davids) and also specifically Kane. Imagine what he could teach young Harry by taking him under his wing!

Kane +someone senior he could learn from, +a young promising or mid level striker is probably a good balance

100% agreed. if we get the chance to sign an experienced and professional striker, we've got to take it.

Think we're gonna try everything to get poch his schneiderlain

I think Poch knows priorities lie elsewhere.

With a zero net spend limit, he's not going to want £25m to go on MS. We are in a very different position to 12 months ago, with the emergence of Bentaleb, Mason and Winks, and the signing of Alli.

The money has to pretty much all go on forwards (a CF and LWF)

guess you missed him bossing real madrid then. even at his age he's better then any central midfielder weve had since Modric.

Fair enough. I did miss that. He wouldn't fit the Poch pressing game presumably - GBs point maybe. Could be a good squad player or run the cup games. We could do with one or two senior experienced players to complement the young team.

Pirlo would simply sit infront of the defence and dictate play, recycling possession and getting out wide as quick as possible. Bentaleb and Schneiderlin would do the job infront of them.

Take Pirlo? Yes!

Sadly he rejected us last year because he wanted to continue winning trophies, not help a team qaulify for the CL, which was a big surprise because we all know how the latter is much much more important..... ;)

He and Baldini are close and Baldini has always wanted to sign him (he was close to signing him for Roma) - you never know.

Can't see it myself. Bentaleb and Mason are not that bad at passing the ball out wide. The team needs to be setup to find space. Pirlo wouldn't have anyone to pass to necessarily in our current side.

How do you persist with this. How do you watch us play every week and not shed a tear at our midfield? I genuinely think that central midfield is our NUMBER ONE URENT PRIORITY!!

I have a feeling Poch will too!!

Sell 12 players (though how the hell will we do that) - Kaboul, Chiriches, Capoue, Ade, Soldado, Holtby, Carroll, Townsend, Dembele, Stambouli, Paulimho
Buy 5 - CB, CM, WINGER, WINGER/STRIKER and a STRIKER
Wimmer, Schneidelrin, Rodrigues, Thauvin, Ings

DONE!!!

I am beginning to think that you are Mason's agent ;)

So you want to leave the most crucial part of the team to a huffer-puffer, a kid who has not yet even been on the bench and a youngster, albeit extremely promising, whose only experience is playing in the Championship. o_O I would be ecstatic if you were managing Spurs.

Your undying love for Mason is truly admirable! Can you tell what is the based on unless you are really his agent? Ironically his style play puts him as a very poor man's Scott Parker - ironically a player you lambasted even when he was putting in magnificent displays in his first year, saying his type of player is not needed!

That's wishful thinking in my view. We've conceded 53 goals, and still counting. You have to go down as far as Leicester and Saudi Sportswashing Machine for higher numbers. Almost all our woes this season have been defensive ones, and by any measure you can come up with, there is clearly a fairly major issue there. Albeit that there have been plenty of individual mistakes and a lack of quality CB cover, much of the problem has stemmed from the midfield.

Not even in the championship, league one!!

Gutterboy is utterly bonkers on all matters spurs!! Frightening what he wants us to become. Mid table battlers by all accounts.

Personally I'd get rid of Mason, but it aint happening, I'm happy to bring in Alli, but a quality central midfielder to partner and help develop bentaleb is essential. Bentaleb, Schneiderlin, Mason, Alli.... though that's still weak... Can we please just get rid of Mason and get another in?! PLEASE!!!!

Mason is well ahead of where Schneiderlin was at the same age (he was playing in the Championship when he was Mason's age).

Mason's season has actually been very similar to Modric's first (people forget how inconsistent Modric was that first year and how criticised he was for giving the ball away too much).
