Gareth Bale

correct. barca won't pay the money and this is a not a fabregas situation where he'd only go to one club.

as we know levy never accepts anything but absolute top dollar for our best players and with 3 years left on his contract gareth will be doing what's he told for the moment anyway

Throw a couple of wobblers here and a transfer request there and he'd get his way.

barca are talking about ?ú20M. levy would want double that.

if Emirates Marketing Project or chelsea started sniffing around then obviously that might change things.

Bale and Modric off, a new manager coming in, next season will be a transitional season for sure. Bobbing along on an even keel was nice while it lasted.

Not a surprise really. Just bad timing to say it for me, comes across as typically mercenary. Holding the club to ransom and shouting 'come n get me'.

Just think there's a better way of doing things.

Do you not think we did well with Dos Santos and Bassong?

Obviously not, but that's not the point. Anyone can mention a couple of players that worked out or didn't work out for almost any club or manager, does very little to make a point either way. I just find the idea that players like Bale need to stay with us to develop as we are somehow better at it than the top clubs in Europe optimistic at best and more likely slightly deluded.

Would go with my best wishes if we don't qualify for CL.

He has provided us with so many good memories, never had a bad word to say about the club, always looks to be enjoying his football - he is far too good a talent not to be playing in the CL two seasons running.....

I dunno man, he's only going to be 23 at the end of this season. He'll have plenty of time to play in the CL. And to be honest, I'm a bit sick (not trying to criticise you here) of football's obsession with the CL, as if it's the only thing of any importance and every good player has to play in it. Most teams only play 6 - 10 games in it, and a handful of them will be against opposition that isn't any better than the average Premier League team. I'm a bit sick of the hype surrounding it. I suppose this is partly due to being a Spurs fan in recent years, in which CL has become the be-all-and-end-all of everything. Having watched the constant diving and going to ground in the Bayern-Madrid match, as well as Drogba's constant playacting throughout, it doesn't really do much for me at the moment. I'd rather watch Fulham vs Wigan or something.

Anyway, that's a bit of a rant. Never mind.

In regards GB as a Brazilian style full-back, I've never rated Roberto Carlos as a defender but I guess reading Alves, he isn't meant to be. We potentially have two full-backs in that role in Bale and Walker but the latter needs to learn to cross and we'd need a better (or consistent) central defence basis to accomodate them. It would at least mean we could accomodate a mix of central midfield in Hudds (the quarterback), Sandro, Modric and Parker.

Thinking along the lines of:

---------------------Friedel-------------------
--------------Kaboul------Cultured CB---------
Walker--------------Hudds----------------Bale
--------------------Sandro--------------------
-------------Modric--------VdV---------------
------------Big Man-----Linekeresque---------

We may be a little pedestrian in covering Bale and Walker with Hudds, Modric and VdV so that would probably have to be addressed.

I do really like BAE and Azza so I wouldn't want to discard them that quickly, but it would give us options.

I get that, but its the place to be and all players want to test themselves against the best. He is still young but does that mean he wants to be deprived of playing in CL as much as possible? He might suffer a career threatening injury tomorrow, you just never know.

Its not just the CL either, the type of club he'd join would be challenging for titles year in year out. Honestly, if we take our Spurs tinted glasses off how high up on the list of teams to play for are we in terms of attractiveness, even in the PL? We are trying to compete for a top 4 place, yet in most instances clubs not even in the top 4 ie Chelsea are considered a more attractive proposition and in some cases maybe even Liverpool!

So we could buyout Hulk?

lol.

Honestly though we could do a lot of great things with that cash if we spend it wisely. Bale will be a huge miss (Luka not so much imo) but losing big players doesn't necessarily mean seasons of mid table mediocracy (ask Saudi Sportswashing Machine).

On the positive side we'll probably get around 90m for Bale and Luka.

i think levy would love that... and still believ that we can spend that on the stadium and some new players... and still have confidence to mount a top 4 challenge again after the stadium is built and the cash flows are stronger and more stable.

we peaked too early ... or we built that stadium too late.

Bale can hang in there for another year.
It's not the end of the world to sell a key player,
as long as we get good money it can be reinvested.
But it's never wise to sell more than one a year.
If Modric leave we'll need Bale for continuity, attraction and to spearhead the team.
Modric is first in line, already been told to stay for another season, and he's older than Bale.
I'm afraid Modric would really stink up the place if Bale is allowed to leave while himself is forced to stay.

If we do miss out on Champions League then I believe it would be in our best interest to get as much as we can for Modric,
and reinvest to make another push for CL with fresh faces and new motivation.

Bale should stay for now unless City want to break the world transfer record.

Gareth Bale uncertain over Tottenham future

Gareth Bale admits he will consider his future at Tottenham if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The left-sided midfielder told BBC's Football Focus: "If we don't [qualify for the Champions League], I have to discuss what's best for myself."

More to follow.

So in other words - he is off, if we dont make top 4

Love it, if we dont get top 4 players have to leave to get CL footie,

Well what about them being the same ****s who have been a massive reason why we wont get top 4 because of them bottling it when 13 points in front of 4th
