Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

We won't make 70 million pounds worth of improvement though. Every club on the planet will know we've just gained 70 million (or what ever the fee ended up being). Their 10 million pound player will immediately become a 20 million pound player as soon as we come sniffing. That combined with DL's hatred of paying over the odds for players (David Bentley not included) will see us spin our wheels and get nowhere for the majority of the transfer window and we'll end up with Frazer Campbell on loan again.

Did it seem to affect the prices post Modric sale?

As long as the Bale sale occurs early enough, DL will get players in.

Re: Gareth Bale

I think you might be right on this. His last comments (Perez) are in complete contrast to everything that has gone on before, so there may have been some contact between the clubs. We'll see over the next few weeks if Madrid keep up their pursuit by media or not.

Also read in the bbc gossip column that they are considering bidding for Cavani and that Cavani would prefer Madrid over other offers.... I think he would cost over 50m... if they spend that on him and a fortune to stop Ronaldo sulking then maybe they wouldnt have the budget for him this season......makes it more likely he will stay??

Its obvious from Perez stance of 'born to play for us' compared to 'we are friends I know their president and he doesnt like us talking about Bale' means that the Levy has basically said 'stop acting like bertie big bo**ocks over OUR player'

is this the calm before the storm??? are we holding off on potential bids to see what happens with Bale????

Come on Levy play a blinder this summer. one more season out of Gareth.......if they bid 85m looks like many - from poll in transfer section would say thats too much to turn down....... how much do they want him????? what are we prepared to do/sacrifice to keep the lad.

We are meant to have paid the full fee upfront and with no conditions to get Dembele. Fulham were meant to be quite shocked by our approach.

Re: Gareth Bale

i don't buy in to this prices go up because teams know you have money stuff if im honest, oil clubs aside obviously who will just pay whatever because they can and don't want to spend all summer haggling.

if we were to suddenly become flush with 80m then id imagine we'd continue shopping at our level but maybe be a bit less hard on the negotiating of the last couple of mil which we seem to currently like doing. maybe one player 20m+ but mostly id imagine we'd be looking for the right players at the right prices for us.

I had a horrible thought that Perez is playing all nice now because there has been some deal already agreed  , and the fact that it hasn't been announced is to allow us to do our business in advance of other clubs knowing we have serious coin.

Nothing to do with the price though, we activated a release clause, all that changed was how we paid. All at once rather than installments.

Re: Gareth Bale

A bid of 100 million and you have to let him go, and replace him with 3 x £25m million players, in the hope that 2 of the 3 are half-way decent!!
Problem is that your wage bill goes up too...

City and Chelski do their shopping and then everyone else can move on the targets they've had since the end of Jan...nothing to do with Bale...as I keep on saying, that's...sorry, broken record territory...

The problem is, Madrid cannot afford 100 million and would find it very very tough to get a loan for that amount. If they did, would YOU trust spanish money?

£25m players (let alone 3 in the same window!) won't join us as we are not in the CL nor do we pay big wages.

Re: Gareth Bale

I’m just going to pass on what I’ve been told by a spurs supporting old school friend of mine last sunday;

He said that he had been told by his brother (who works in the ‘sports industry’) that Bale will be sold to Madrid for £80M. He said that Madrid are just waiting for their new manager to be appointed and then it will be announced.
I said I didn’t believe it and he just said ‘remember where you heard it first…’
I then asked him who his brother supported; he used to be a Spurs fan but was now a Gooner! There’s your answer then I said; clearly on a wind up.

I then went back to him today and asked him what he himself believed (and I reminded him that I had a bet with two Gooners that Bale stays otherwise I have to buy two sets of lunches for a week…). He said in his opinion Bale is off and that his brother would not wind him up like that…

Thoughts..????

Re: Gareth Bale

Bale won't be leaving.

I have always thought the same (hence my two bets to buy lunch for a week with two Gooners if he did leave) but I've not been following things for the last two days or so, and another friend today mentioned that Perez said they will wait until after their new manager is appointed to see if he sees Bale as part of his plans before formally making an approach.

If Perez did say something to that effect, that makes me start to worry a bit....

Why does that make you worry?

All you've said there is that Real will wait and see if their manager wants Bale. Then they will approach us, and then we'll turn them down.

Job's a good 'un, down to the pub for a celebratory pint.

I worry more because perhaps the ITK that my old schoolfriend's brother may be legit; he said tht deal will be announced after new manager announced and that seems to tie-in a little with what I heard about what Perez had said...
