Fernando Llorente

£15m today is like £5m a year ago. Its throw away money you dont expect to see again.

The thing with Jansen is if we turn down £25m today (assuming the bid is real) could we stand to lose massively on him next summer if he fails to perform on loan?

I can certainly see that £25m being extremely tempting right now with us cutting our potential loses on Janssen.

And I say that as someone who has always supported Janssen and wanted him to come good. I do think there is a good striker in there, but I am also at a point of wondering if he is more of a Soldado

Because that's useful when we have 70% possession?

Llorente has the same issues as Benteke. He's a perfect forward for a 4-4-2 team that plays on the break and has a Defoe next to him and two touchline hugging wingers. He's not suited to a fluid, high tempo passing and possession side

What good is 70% possession if you can't unlock Burnley's defense with your high tempo passing?

Completely sensible buy, experienced player who has won world cup. Scored 15 goals last year, Obvious Option B
25Mil for Janssen at this point seems very very good money, the percentage would say he is more likely to be mediocre than be a world beater.

Last 10mins id far far rather fancy Llorente than Janssen next week

Plus this could send Conte over the edge if we pulled it off

What is an immobile target man going to do? He needs Dawson hoofs to head on to Defoe. Not Eriksen and Alli trying to pick out his snail pace runs.

He'll be pulling his hair out.

When we were linked to him many years back I always thought Llorente was a not quite as good Berbatov - is he now just a big man up top?

Scores a lot of headers but Im not sure its fair just to say he is justa big man up top.

All goals last season, decide for yourself:

Personally I think there are a few Kaneesque goals in there, and that he appears to be an excellent striker in the box (particularly a crowded one), something that could be a real use to us when teams park the bus.

And when Eriksen and Alli are having no success picking out runs with intricate passing? I didn't say we should sign him to play in this system, it's stupid to even consider it... I said it would be good to have OPTIONS.

So many headed goals from crosses he'd fit right into 1998! :p I'm sure he could be useful for us.

He doesn't really solve our issue, which is not having pace or dribblers up front outside of Son (and Lamela, if he ever returns to fitness) - but I agree, there are some decent finishes in there. Safe to say we know what we'll be getting from him if this one goes through, though - he isn't being signed because of his tap-ins and finishes in the box, he's being signed because he's a physical unit we can lob crosses at, a la Giroud.

I think you might be confusing him with Vucinic, who we were heavily linked with at the same time

In Spain Llorente was always described as a traditional English centre forward.

Especially after we put the clause in Auriers Deal, and looks like Barkley wants us as well.
If they really wanted Aurier I'm sure they could have got involved much earlier. Not sure why they left it so late, but then again looks like we are doing something similar with Llorente.

This, Janssen has been playing for last 10 minutes and early Carling and FA cup games. Llorente isnt a starter, plus its not like Janssen has pace anyway.
WBA came in late with a very high bid, last 2 games we have been throwing balls into the box, Llorente fits that profile very well.

We have more than one issue. Clearly much of our rumoured business has been looking at genuine pace/dribblers up front - Balde, Gray, Mahrez...

I think it does him a disservice to say he is a just a big lump. Its a factor, a plan B, an option - all things we've lacked, but he is a genuine quality striker who gets goals - all sorts of goals - as well. Something Janssen is yet to show us.

Llorente would add a lot to our squad/options and its more than just an agricultural plan B.

Selling Janssen for £25m would be incredible business after last season.

I like him, and I do hope for him to come good, but it would undeiably be an absolute steal to shift him for a profit at this point.

And to replace him with a wily old player who knows where the goal is, for £15m (peanuts in this market) is the icing on the cake

The flip side is that if he had a successful loan spell, he could be a £40m player
