Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

Half the people on here having a go at the 'support' weren't at the game.
I don't have a right to complain about paying fans and neither does a guy with the history Adebayor has.

I wasn't at yesterdays game, but having been to a few this season and many more every season preceeding, I know exactly what our fans as a whole are like.

Im just as frustrated as all the more shall we say vocal ones but don't think its in anyway productive for the players, and its making it a less enjoyable place for supporters to go - I know enough who go and say the same. Like I say booing at HT/end of the game is one thing, but to constantly be on player's backs during a game is blatantlly counter productive....

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

I'm sick of this I'm a hard working guy who earns x amount so deserve to see more. Is it that simple? Is it a lack of effort from the players? No. Not in my opinion, they are trying but are absolutely struggling with confidence. Imagine doing your job with 36,000 people telling you you're sh*t.

Our support is an absolute joke, and I actually hate going to watch games at WHL at the moment.

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

He's right though, a lot of times when I've been our fans are so negative. They start out alright, but if we concede or things start to slide away they turn quite quickly on the players. 90% can't even find the balls to cheer the team anyway. The away support are usually more vocal than the home.

Support is meant to be supportive not destructive. The home fans are meant to be getting on the backs of the opposition players not our own.

Not having the right mentallity is a start, but even the strongest will find it hard to deal with being moaned at for a single misplaced pass. I mean seriously, who would want to deal with that ****? It's one thing ignoring a hostile away atmosphere, but it's another trying to get by with your own fans slating you all the time.

It's pathetic tbh. Grown men acting like petty little school children. Honestly if we could all look at a video of ourselves during a game it would be hilarious.

People get so unbelievably angry no matter what happens. If they keep possession, "go forward you f***** macaron!", if they kick it long, "keep the ball you f****** c***!" and repeat for 90 mins

It's this sense of entitlement which is killing us. It is a lot of money, no doubt. We deserve more for the money we pay. But it's not through a lack of effort on the players and staff's account in my view.

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

my take, no matter what you pay you don't "deserve" anything, you can expect merely what the product is (no more, no less), that you will see two sides play a football match, there is no guarantee of anything

how you behave at the event is up to you, positive or negative, there is no demand of either as long as you adhere to the rules of entry on the ticket and don't do anything illegal

there is no such thing as a "good fan" or a "bad fan" merely customers

you can pine all you want for the old days but they have long left the PL and they ain't coming back

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

I said in the Aston Villa post last week at 65minutes there were about 150 of our fans watching the game behind the stands on the TV, others confirmed this.

They are the same people who probably claim that Naughton was a disgrace for the sending off or the amount a player earns should directly represent how good he is..

I understand the comments about effort and yes some of our lot are not putting in a shift, however if you gave anybody on this board 1million pounds a week it wouldnt make them Messi.

There is a entire negative atmosphere around the club at the moment, LevyOut PochOut and then 5 minutes later claiming we are rebuilding this year and expected not to challenge. Well expecting not to challenge means we will lose to Stoke at home.

I don't actually havent got a solution at the moment, apart from a major rebuild. But if Poch dropped Verts, Lamela, Capoue, Soldado and brought in Dier, Lennon, Bentaleb, Kane then im not sure he would be supported if he lost 1 game let alone 5 whatever people say.

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

Only if the team is full of really mentally weak players.
He's a ****ing hyppocrit end of story.

The team is full of human beings. What exactly is going to constitute home advantage if not the fact that the players have the support of the fans and the confidence that comes with it?

Let me ask you, when Lee Young-Pyo made that balls up against Man United in 2006, when we were close to getting CL football for the first time, and a massive boo went around the ground next time he got the ball, did you agree with that? Did you think 'they pay good money, they can do what they want?'

Or did you more agree with the fans that the next time he got on the ball, gave him a massive cheer, and roared the team on to stay in the game? Which type of 'support' do you feel is more helpful? Actual support, or entitled getting on the backs of players because they aren't entertaining you?

You need to realise that we as fans have a stake in the performance of the team at home. It is our job to roar them on and be the 12th man. It will give them an extra hard of pace. It will make them look for the ball. They will get more inspiration and try things that their talent will allow them to do but their confidence may not always do.

Without wanting to get too personal, I think it's fair to say your comments are indicative of an entitled fan base that is in no way helping the performances of the team at home. It's people like you that are making it worse. It needs to stop.

My point is that its up to the fans at white hart lane to have a conversation about the atmosphere.
The guy that celebrated in front of his former fans has no right to speak up in any conversation about our support.

Why? One event has nothing to do with the other. He's a senior player in the squad speaking up for the feelings of the entire squad.

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

I found comfort in these wise words. To say nothing of harmony, melody and brotherhood.

How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy to be hard, easy to be cold

How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be proud, easy to say no

Especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about bleeding crowd
How about a needing friend, I need a friend

How can people be so heartless
You know I'm hung up on you
Easy to be proud, easy to say no

Especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about bleeding crowd
How about a needing friend, we all need a friend

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

Dear Ade,

Stop being sh1t and we'll stop calling you sh1t.

Yours, Spurs fans.

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

I agree to some extent, the fans at Spurs are crap! moan moan moan

On the other hand this is where our mentality is showing itself up. GROW SOME BALLS and take the game by the scruff of the neck. Try hard, close down, effort effort effort will win the spurs fans round.

When a player is playing poorly if he tries it helps. We had Freund, not the best footballer but tried his heart out and was a fan favorite!

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

Football is an inconsistent game, therefore its near on impossible to know what to expect before you turn up. Nothing on the pitch is guaranteed, the only thing that realistically can be guaranteed or should be is the support for the team and that's comes from the fans, the fans have that opportunity to get behind the team game in game out and that could become a guarantee each game, the problem is its not.

Re: Emmanuel Adebayor

I think he could have expressed himself a bit more diplomatically. Perhaps something along the lines of "we are trying but we know things haven't been working out as any of us would have hoped. But please stick with us because the players need you and they need the support that you can generate for us at home matches." This way it would have been a little less accusatory. There are those that agree with booing and those that don't. Ade's comments will only serve to inflame things for those fans that do boo the team, especially once the press has finished editing them to make them look as negative as possible. I understand his comments and agree with them to an extent. However, it seems to me that there is a malaise at Tottenham that runs a lot deeper than the fans not singing much.

Don't agree, we've always had spacegoats and the mob gets on their back very very quickly. Jenas being a prime example. Would run more than anyone but he didn't connect with the crowd.

I think it's like this - even in a terrible atmosphere, some players will be able to suck it up and continue to perform. Some. But in a positive atmosphere with unequivocal support roaring you on, all players will find that a benefit. So what is our job? To make it as easy as possible for them to perform, not harder.

It's not even about effort. It's about pass selection. Hitting a shot first time. Asking for the ball in a crowded area. Trying something your talent allows you to do but when low on confidence you may just play it safe. None of that is down to 'he earns 100k a week so he should be able to do it even if I'm booing him'. It's a human confidence thing.

Very close ..

Ade should not have been the person to express/state this, Mason/Kane/Lloris could have all said it, probably as you expressed with a little more diplomacy and everyone would have gone for it. Ade is an extremely polarizing figure, he/club should know better.

Re the crowd itself, it is not a WHL or Spurs problem, its a football issue, the Sport has lost its way, too much media hype, too many "must win" games, too many stats, analysis of which is the best manager, best buy of season, list goes on. Sides like Cheat$ki get celebrated for winning the CL with the most appalling run of football in history.

The pressure is too much, too many people actually believe it's CL or relegation, no in-between, we no longer enjoy the games and I think the players have lost that pleasure as well.

Is it a surprise that the two managers (BMJ & Harry) that had the most relative success (to where they started) were both people who motivated/protected and helped the players enjoy/express themselves? and the managers with rules/systems/discipline it all falls apart?

If it is a football wide problem, why are managers able to implement systems at other clubs but we can't seem to be able to? Why should we be confined to an 'arm around the shoulder' approach while other clubs expose us in the big games due to tactical issues?

I think Ade was a pretty decent shout in terms of who should say this. Maybe Lloris would have been the best, or Kaboul obviously since he is captain. But Ade has the seniority and the reputation to take the flack. Sending Mason or Kane out there to say this would be madness. Sure there's a chance the fans get on their back less because they are 'one of their own' but putting a young player in that position just seems like utter madness to me.
