Etienne Capoue

Who's worrying? i'm entitled to my opinion just like you are. A difference in opinions doesn't mean i'm "worrying" but that i'd rather we focused on problem positions first.

you sounded like you were worrying where he would fit in with your comment about the world cup and not signing without reassurances etc

I don't know a lot about this guy, but I'm with KD on this one. He may turn out to be a great signing, but shouldn't another striker and centre backs be the main priority considering the injuries? Especially at centre back?

Pretty sure that we're working on strengthening both of those positions too.

And signing Capoue will, strangely, help in that regard.

It will help because it will allow us to sell two or three players, recoup (or more) what we pay for Capoue, and reduce the wage bill all in one, fell swoop.

Of course there is but when we've got injuries in a certain position, namely centre back I just think it would be sensible to get that sorted FIRST and give them as much time to bed in with the squad as possible.

capoue can play centre half.

you may then say but he ISNT a centre half. But why buy a centre half who will eventually be what, 3rd or 4th choice? Capoue adds depth to other positions too, solid signing.

I didn't know he could play centre half. My bad for not reading the previous posts I guess.

no worries.

yeah he can play centre half and has good to a good standard, but he is primarily a defensive based midfielder. Like I mentioned, it's like Vertonghen playing left back, he ISNT a left back but he can play there well.

"hey yo Franco, Toulouse are prepared to deal with us for Chapoue, what you saying bro?"

"hold tight geez i can't do anything until ive got a CB sorted out, we can't sign the gypsy until Star have qualified for the CL so you'll have to ask them to hold until the end of the window"

-"but Cardiff are sniffing around and already have a bid accepted"

"tell them we will DEFO be back in so if they could just hold on that a few weeks we'll throw in an Opus to make it worth their while"

of course you are right, but surely its better to get the players we want than to make a rushed signings

Letting Townsend go would be fudging stupid. We had no decent cover once we let him go on loan last season.

Providing Bale stays and we stick with the 4-3-3 formation (as well as selling Parker,Hudd,Livermore) thats:

Bale
Chadli
Townsend
Lennon
Capoue
Sandro
Dembele
paulinho
Holtby
Sigurdsson

I'm assuming Carroll will be loaned out. That's 10 players fighting for 5 positions which is fine. Where the problem lies is the quality of players and all those players would expect to be getting a considerable amount of game time. These are all certified starters for good premiership teams at the very least and about 3 of them won't even be involved in the match day squad.

I don't want either Townsend or Siggy to leave but i can see one being sacrificed now.

Leaving us with:

Dembele, Holtby, Sigurdsson, Paulinho, Sandro, Capoue, Carroll.

Maybe we could do with one of those three actually. Who adds the most?

Well if i had to keep one it would probably be Livermore, he is 3 years younger then Hudd and 9 years younger then Parker.

Neither of Townsend, Sigurdsson or Carroll will be loaned out.

There you are with your definite statements again as if you know something more than most. Hopefully it won't be like the Kit thread where you 100% guaranteed what out 3rd kit is and then claimed it was just a hunch when a poster pointed out it definitely wasn't our 3rd kit.

KD don't sweat it we will have bare games next season.

we'll be playing 60+ games next season right? 60+ games for Sandro and Capoue to play between them, 60+ games for Paulhino and Dembele, 60+ games for Carroll/Sigurdsson and Holtby and so on...

:ross:

wow .. good to see the GG Drama Queen society still hard at work.

- Seems like a good buy for quality/price/age
- Lots of time left in the window for other priorities
- Highly likely as others mentioned we are shipping out a few players (that most agree need upgrading)

This is simply another good job, nice and early, move on to next requirement ..
