Etienne Capoue

why are you having so much trouble seeing that we've signed a player to replace Parker and Huddelstone and give good competition to Sandro?

You're not seeing the bigger picture.

It's world cup year and i refuse to believe Capoue agreed to this move without certain reassurances. He''s not sitting on the bench like most seem to think imo and i don't know why we didn't get a creative CM if we realllllyyyy wanted to do what we always do and buy hundreds of cm's.

If AVB wants him and thinks he can fit him in our team then ill back him over the Ron Managers inflated opinions on here

didnt you know that a lot of people on here know whats best for the team and are future managers in the making, marky!?

with a strong squad, which we seem to be building, we have a good chance of competing both domestically and in the Europa - 4 competitions - 60+ games potentially on offer for our 7 or so midfielders (assuming Parker Hudd et all move on) lack of game time will be the least of their worries.

the way it's shaping up to me is that we're going to have a crop of midfielders we can choose from to match any other in the league - tough away game against a bunch of cloggers? stick in Sandro and Capoue ... home against a strong side? Paulhino Sandro and Dembele....playing a team we should dominate? bring in Holtby and Sigurdsson (Carroll)

it's all about options my man and here at Tottenham we have so many options we won't know which one to choose :p

It's called having an opinion (something that you yourself are quite known for on here). This is where we discuss our opinions, a football forum, a spurs forum, who would have thought.

Charlie says he can't and he knows his French footy (plus he's French). He might have played that position before but playing that position and playing that position well are two different things.

I'm now thinking wtf are we planning? hmmmm Dembele was awesome in a wide position for Fulham and he played very well on the right away to liverpool last season. If you have the ability to re-watch that game (i know we lost) just watch it and focus on Dembele's performance. He kept coming infield to collect the ball, distributed very well, got involved. He basically dicated the game from a wide position which is ver hard to do.

I know Dembele doesn't look right in that position but a player can't just lose the ability to play in a position he's played very well for a long time.

Charlie has an opinion. And I respect it. But he didn't say that Capoue "can't" play at CB.

Besides, he's not the fudging Oracle.

Perhaps he isn't aware of the fact that Capoue started out as a centre back? Perhaps he hasn't seen Capoue play too often at centre back? Perhaps Charlie was merely making the observation that Capoue is so good at CM / DM that he shouldn't be wasted at CB?

Or perhaps Charlie's is just one opinion - which isn't necessarily shared by people at the club who probably know at least as much about Capoue as he does?

None of us know the ins and outs tbh. I wouldn't be surprised if we now see a surprise departure in midfield (either Townsend or Siggy).

well hopefully we dont get a surprise departure but instead get rid of players not good enough like Parker and Livermore.

I can see where kingdawson is coming from but unless the signing of Capoue means we don't get a CB or LB or a ceative player(or whoever you feel we need most) then there's nothing to get upset about. Last season when Sandro and Dembele out, the quality dropped massively, now we could field Capoue and Paulinho and not miss a beat.

I don't know a lot about this guy, but I'm with KD on this one. He may turn out to be a great signing, but shouldn't another striker and centre backs be the main priority considering the injuries? Especially at centre back?

begs the question why you're worrying about it then?

it all seems clear as crystal to me - we missed Dembele and Sandro more than anyone else last season so we have now got ourselves cover/competition for them both - both of which are versatile enough to play alongside any of the others or each other (or even if the situation requires alongside two of the younger more creative players)

i don't for one second believe that we'd be spending money here and leaving ourselves short to buy in other areas - i see this angle come up a lot with some posters on here and it just doesn't make sense - firstly we don't know what other players we're looking at (where did this one come form for example?) and secondly there is no set order in which you buy your players - you have your targets and work them at the same time, some take longer than others to conclude - but that's just how it pans out. the whole "why buy position X when position Y is needed more" is just so obviously answered by common sense that i can't help but get wound up every time i see it asked

Who's worrying? i'm entitled to my opinion just like you are. A difference in opinions doesn't mean i'm "worrying" but that i'd rather we focused on problem positions first.
