Eric Dier

Anyone worried about Diers quotes in the press?:D

This is such an obvious plant by United to a friendly journo at The Express. It is based on a comment he made years ago before he moved to Spurs about it being hard to turn down an offer from United. A blatant attempt to unsettle the player and nothing more.'

How exactly do you "step up" efforts to sign a player? Surely the only thing they can possibly step up is their offer?

By arranging the publication of more spurious media stories in the hope it will turn the head of a player known to be (or have been) a Utd fan.
We've made it known that we will not entertain any bids for Dier (a pretty clear message given that we don't usually comment at all), so what else can an arrogant club like Utd do but continue tapping up via the press?

The more the media spout this story the bigger mugs Utd will look later when they end up empty handed.

Forgetting about whether Dele will be happy or not if Dier goes this move will not happen because Levy will not sanction it because of the effect it would have on Poch.

Money will win out of that Poch will be aware.
So Dier to Man U entirely possible.
Dele will go if the bid gets silly for the same reason as Bale went, because that's what the player wants.
Can you blame them......
We are still some seasoned away from keeping our better players. We are financially still a way of the pace as Everton are finding out!
Dele will be offered north of £200 pw this summer and I can see him going.
Kane will follow for the same reason MONEY

Levy knows the battles he can currently win, his normal and correct pragmatism will prevail.

Sorry but I dont think you can be so confident about that. Everyone has their price, and if true that Dier supported Utd as a youngster and demonstrates a willingness to leave he will in all likelihood end up going. The only thing you can be sure of is that if he does, United will massively overpay.....

Its not just The Express reporting it though is it. The more reliable Guardian are too....

This is worrying, although think Levy won't be interested. If we were to lose Walker and Dier it would unsettle the lot, I fear.

Levy's pragmatism at work!

It's also a United friendly Guardian journo though.

Not worried about Dier leaving. We're a year away from the new stadium when hopefully talks of '100k wage caps' will cease at our club. And being at Wembley now I would have thought we could probably start showing more flexibility on wages.

If Levy is serious about us becoming one of the top clubs in Europe, we don't keep getting bullied by other clubs in our league. Of course I can see why he's not just going to offer wage increases to players at the first sign of interest from other clubs, but we will at some point have to alter our strategy on wages from 'best of the rest top 6 side with a 36k stadium living within our means' to 'regular CL participants and title challengers'. The squad that has stayed loyal deserves a rise in line with that.

The loyal players may well deserve a rise but Levy ALWAYS looks at the overall financial situation and that alone will be his guide.
Its why he is so good at his job.

We are still IMHO three season away from any major hike in wages.
Levy will also be looking at any changes in TV money revenue next season before he changes his wage structure markedly.

EDIT Lets not forget the stadium will be impacting on the overall financial situation.

We can certainly pay more just with the new tv money

I made the comment previously that we should have fist team players almost on a flat structure so there all "in it together" on say £100k

I know that goes against the grain of what other clubs do but i can't think of a better way of creating a team (which we have) by having everyone on a similar wage... almost like a unionised set up

It would give anyone out of the team a carrot to improve but give everyone a sightline

Think we will keep everyone we want Bar Walker this year - if we win something will keep the core again for another year and then have to win the league to keep it together otherwise we will be broken up.

I swear every time theres speculation about one of our players leaving its just an agenda from the media on here. Like I said, if Man U is indeed his boyhood club he could well leave and we will get a ridiculous fee for him. Either way, in Levy and Poch I trust....

That was the model Wenger used. Young players got big increases early on and some say that this hampered their desire and development. I think Gallas said something about this.
