Isn't there talk that Southgate is going to make Kane England captain too?
But he's not in the same class as Jamie Vardy

He'll probably get an official position as Dele's minder for club and country too.Now that you mention it, yes, something about that was said recently. I'd forgotten that.
Poor Eric. Destined to be in Kane's captain-shadow for club and country.
Blootered - my new favourite word.Yes, he absolutely blootered it, no chance for the keeper, from outside the box, just lashed it in like Mike Tyson punching a fly through a brick wall
You know what, that was a heck of a finish yesterday. Not heard comment about it, very high quality.

Urgh, this rumor just doesn't go away.
Like a turd that won't flush.
It's also worrying that people hail him as an 'excellent signing' for us, even a good one. Guy wouldn't displace Carrick here who's 60 himself and probably needs to be moved on, nevermind the fact that he's playing in a better team. It's mind boggling.
Mr average and adds nothing to Utd than a very good versatile squad player. To me he's just a stocky Blind....
Eric Dyer? Really? Is Manchester United new Everton?
Nothing like Blind. Doesn't have the passing or technical ability but has the physicality that Blind lacks. He'd be a decent signing imo but I would definitely prefer Fabinho. It may be important to sign him for our english quota if we are looking at moving on Young, Rooney and possibly Jones. For this reason I don't see Shaw leaving either.
I don't mind Dier but nothing about this move would excite me. Surely it would be more advisable to go for Fabinho, if we're talking 40m for Dier..
Like Blind for his versatility and nothing more than that. I'd sooner promote from the u23 squad for the English quota than a vanilla signing like him
Let's hope other team's managers feel that way too. The longer he stays under the radar the better.
Love Eric as a midfielder, but still don't like him as a CB - another example yeaterday of him not defending with enough urgency (not trying to match Pedro's run, that led to the free kick and their first goal)
Of course he's still young so plenty of time to improve, but I just think he looks far, far more comfortable and accomplished in midfield.
Agree with that. Problem at the moment is that we lack decent cover at CB whereas we have two top class holding CMs in Dier and Wanyama. Hopefully we'll add a decent CB in the summer
He's not the one with time on the ball though. Playing as a pivot next to Dembele he is the one with time and space to dictate the passing.Dier pushes in to midfield in the 3421 though - in fact he probably spends as much time in the midfield positions in this setup as he did in the 4231 and having to drop back covering in defense
We wouldn't have lost that game with dier in midfield
I love wanyama but Dier plays so many more forward passes IMO and takes the ball into the opposition half
Victor had a poor first half and a good second but could you ever see Victor scoring like Matic? Dier has scored some crackers and defensively for me their similar but Dier adds the creative attacking threat

He's pushing up with the ball or behind it usually.yes he is, he's the one pushing up in to space with no markers - if he has no time or space on the ball then something is seriously wrong
He's pushing up with the ball or behind it usually.
When he drops back from midfield to pick up the ball, it's after our wingbacks have pushed forward and taken markers with them.
It's the same part of the pitch but a different dynamic.
I think it's the next step I our development.as opposed to playing in a crowded central position when part of a central midfield 2? i don't see it personally
its why this system has been such a success - Wanyama holding court and supporting Alderweireld in defense allowing Vertonghen and Dier (and Rose/Walker) the freedom (and space) to move in to so they can support midfield/attack - we're scoring more and conceding less in the new setup and getting more points on the board, switching back to 4231 or playing Dier in Wanyamas would be a backwards step
