Do you really consider Maguire, Stones or Mings as better options? They all have big mistakes in them and Dier has been a lot better than any of those three this season.
Stones hardly gets a look in at City, Maguire is rubbish and Mings has had some horror shows this season.

Stones is Stones. He's just not a good defender. He's been gassed up because he's decent on the ball. Just a shame he sucks at his primary task.

There's not one there I'd pick over Dier.

I expect you’re in a pretty small minority….

if I remember rightly you also thought Dier was a better CM than Henderson (again probably in a tiny minority there as well)

Danny Dyer is a better midfielder than Henderson, let alone Eric Dier

Could not agree more, he has a awful 18 months with illness which led to TWO operations but he now seems to be fitter and over those problems.

Of course he is. Boris Johnson would make a better CM than Henderson.

CB is a problematic position for the England team. None of those you mentioned are world class. Dier has been good this season. It’s his first good season since about 2017/18.

Yeah but he rates Dier far higher in proportion to other spurs players. Including other English players in the squad.

That combined with more ability on the ball makes him a pretty easy inclusion when fit again. Hopefully back soon.

Suppose this also shows the decline in our squad (since Pochettino requested quality furniture) that Dier has gone from being a useful utility player (alongside the much more capable Dutch duo or covering for Dembele / Wanyama) to being arguably the lynchpin in our defence.

Yeah, our PL form nosedived around the same time as Dembele left and whilst he was on his last legs that season it might’ve been worthwhile keeping Moussa around a little longer if only to see if he could’ve been a mentor for Ndombele and help Tanguy acclimatise.

Yeah, if Levy had purchased a replacement in the summer of 2018 that would’ve been ideal but as we didn’t recruit anyone whatsoever in that window then we might as well have (made the best of a bad situation and) just of kept Demebele around to see if he could help Pochettino bring the new recruits up to speed; as losing out on his £5m transfer fee is peanuts compared to the £130m outlay on Ndombele + Lo Celso + Sessegnon and missing out on CL football for these past 3 seasons.
