Eberechi Eze

We won't get either of them. This feels like classic Levy 'we tried' territory.
What is this 'we tried' thing? I've seen a fair bit of this in the last few windows but it only comes from SPurs fans critical of Levy. I don't recall Spurs ever saying anything about how we tried for certain players. Stories emerge in the press, but that's the natural course of things. Spurs don't comment.

Think he will still go to Arsenal and we will likely have another failed transfer. Can't remember the last time we went head to head with arsenal and won a transfer. Last time I was optimistic was Baptista and I was very upset. Not sure why he was ropey as fudge.

It's an easy stick to beat the club with.

As if it wouldn't be a humiliating PR own-goal to put out a statement like that.

I dunno, there may well have been a comment in an interview years back when we were in for a player and it didn't work out for whatever reason, but there's certainly no litany of embarrassing club announcements at the end of each window which seems to have become the received wisdom.

I think it’s as good as done to us. If he was going to Arsenal then I think it would have happened by now. It will happen Thursday most likely after the SuperCup. Can’t see us signing anyone before then.
Well that's just incompetence then...Levy could have just paid the release clause, pushed this deal thru and had Eze coming on in the second-half of the Super Cup to clinch victory. fudging Levy's fault if we lose on Wednesday.!!

I remember one time we did try for Moutinho and commented on it afterwards. And I have some sympathy with the idea that we get close to these players - the types that would help us reach the next level, but we don’t close the deal. Dybala’s image rights, MGW. There’s a lot of these. Spurs don’t comment on every single one, but I think it’s at the very least indicative of a club looking for ‘good deals’ and if it doesn’t work exactly as we thought, we’ll move on. And that’s fine in the sense we have remained sustainable, but we’ve also remained in our position in the hierarchy for a long time.

Would letting the clause expire be a way of working around any insistence by Palace that the full fee be paid upfront?

Indeed! I think there's legs to this personally...and Savinho, if only because Emirates Marketing Project likely want Rodygo. I would also like to publicly reaffirm that my naive, childlike belief in Spurs to do the right thing remains unshakable LOL!

Surely it’s meet the release clause and buy. If we wait till Friday it becomes a free for all. Not sure what club to club talks means at this point

Thing is, who can afford him in the list of places he would want to go and who want him? Man U? Not a chance. Liverpool? Not in. Saudi Sportswashing Machine? Nope. I think it is only the Goons and us at this point. The player will also want his payday right? This is his big move moment. I feel pretty positive about it TBH (as noted earlier, my 'feeling positive' is rather like saying water is wet LOL)...

I really can't see this happening and worry that we are being used to force Arsenal to 'hurry up' as it were....

....but...

..on thing that makes me wonder: if Arsenal were serious about trying to buy Eze, would they have spent £50M on Madueke at this point?
Eze solves a lot of issues for them in comparison....

I thought they wanted him but wouldn't pay the fee how Palace wanted
They even paid above the release clause for the midfielder they got from Spain so they didn't have to pay a big fee up front
I genuinely think they aren't as flush as people make out

Arsenal were serious until the price and payment terms were mentioned, they don't has a pot to tinkle in and couldn't afford him.

They aren’t
They have the ongoing debt from previous windows
Massive increase in wages
And so far spent €210m

Its an age thing though. Eze has no sell on value after this next contract, whereas Madueke they'll be able to get a decent fee for whatever happens

There is, you just weren't paying attention. You probably don't remember the famous 'actions of others' speech either (criticism of agent activity after we'd ... you know, tried).
