Doing a Leicester

It seemed at the time that the crunch game was v Chelsea away but in reality we still needed a minor miracle. We were on 69 points with three games to go whilst Leicester were on 77 with two games left, so we needed to beat Chelsea just to stay in the hunt.

But Leicester went on to win their next game against Everton meaning even if we had beaten Chelsea and both of our two remaining games we still could not have won it.

We bottled the two games against Leicester too. That should have been the decisive swing, would also have broken their momentum.

Because we kept fudging up and not winning games we should have won.

With hindsight knocking them out of FA Cup in 3rd round replay proved to be an pyrrhic victory and it would’ve been preferable to pick up 3 points at WHL in January instead.

Plus there was that injury time defeat at WHL to 18th placed Barcodes just before Christmas, if we’d just won those 2 PL games then we’d have been ahead of Leicester after week 21… ceteris paribus.

The final nail was drawing 1-1 with West Brom leaving us 7 rather than 5 pts. behind with three to play. Plus Dele getting banned for the remainder of the season due to his sneaky and stupid punch on a WBA defender.
Grrrr!

The decision to hire Ruud seems mental in hindsight doesn't it? They got a bit carried away with the fact he beat them twice in that caretaker spell

At the time I thought he was mental to take it.

I’ve done a load of FA coaching courses in the last few years, and stuff he was doing at PSV was used as examples all over the place. His sessions and drills are very well respected.

Interesting to know. Apparently there were plenty of clubs after him, I remember Hamburg and a few others wanted him. Been a disaster though. Doesn't help they have a terrible squad
