Djed Spence

It's why I threw it out.

I think there will be a surprise sale or two in this refresh, and could see Spence being one of them

I do not dislike him as a player and he has talent, however IMO [ and i know there are some who will disagree] his attitude seems poor to me. We shall see if that improves.

To me, it's more he's 26 by start of next season, he has shown lots of promise but not quite hit that level that earlier promise showed and his biggest value seems to be his ability to cover both sides (why he's in England setup).

If we get the right bid for a player that is cover for RB and 3rd choice for LB, do you just take it.

I would hope so.

If you get the right bid for any player you take it. This is by definition what the right bid. It is just higher for some players than their market value might suggest.

I haven't seen any of the alleged attitude issue anymore than I see it from lots of players. I think he is a valuable squad member and I have no concerns when he start on either side of the defence. We have had plenty of full backs over the last two decades that you winced slightly when you saw their names on the team sheet, Spence isn't one of them to me.

Can he be improved upon? Yes, almost certainly. Is he a priority to be replaced no. If a suitable bid came in would I take it? Yes.

As with England at the moment I don't think Spence is our biggest issue to deal with.

He isn't an issue, it's just the logic

- Lots of players in the squad now
- His value will probably be peak now
- He's unlikely to be starting much without Europe
- Moving him on (yes, controversially) may give some more usage time to Gray as cover for RB (with Fenandes, Tonali, Bentancur and Gallagher, limited midfield options)

Don't disagree beyond I'd rather keep a full back as cover for full backs rather than shoe horn (despite Rob's convictions that it is the modern thing) a CM into it just to give them game time. Gray needs a meaningful loan if he isn't going to get game time in the middle of the park.

The question is would we take money if an offer came in?
I would take money for virtually any player we have, actually I would take good money for anyone minus the just signed guys. If the price is right everyone is essentially replaceable.

The only query is if we sold him, do we have a viable alternative. You know me, I want someone who is defensively solid as a minimum, so if we did sell him I want the replacement to be a better defender than Porro.

RDZ didn't select Spence at the end of the season so much, but seemed quite happy to use him from the bench.
Except to trust him over RKM at RW (playing out of position again) for our most important match of the past fifty years after he had apparently gone into RDZ’s office and told him that he could be counted on.

He’s one of our squad who has never gone missing, is always willing to do whatever the team needs and doesn’t spout off on social media when things don’t go his way.

This prevailing belief in Spence having a bad attitude is utter crap.

RdZ loves quick passers, 1 and 2 touch, vision.

That sounds like a back 4 of Robbo - Senesi - VanHecke - Porro

Whereas a back 4 of Udogie - VdV - Danso - Spence is much more 'runners' than 'passers'.

I suppose he will mix things up so we have variety.

Watching Spain yesterday, you can see they are all passers, just popping it off and popping it off and almost back to tiki-taka play; the Austrian battlers couldn't get near them for large parts of the game and became exhausted.
That’s been the Spanish team for the past twenty years though.

Nobody on this thread is arguing that he has a bad attitude.

If Gray commited to RB he will be get 100 England Caps

Yep.

Remember how much moaning there was on here about not having a proper backup at LB last season.
