Dele Alli

He needs to start for me, don't care how old he is. When you have mason and bentaleb and now dier playing 5 yard passes sideways and backwards, none of them driving forward with the ball, alli is clearly what we've been missing and finally provides a link to the attack. This kid has shown more in 30 minutes than mason did for the whole of last season! Positive, great attacking sense, can score goals! Can't wait to see him more.

Except poch is poch and will still give him the odd few minutes here and there and see our play grind to a halt with mason at the heart of our midfield.

I think it's grossly unfair on Mason to state that Alli has achieved more in 30 minutes then Mason managed all past season. Mason made his break through & received International recognition for his performances. Alli has shown a brief glimpse of what he is capable of but the statement is definitely OTT.

He scored a goal and made one other run into the box that I saw. Great for a 10 minute cameo, but nowhere near enough to earn a starting spot. Nor do I think Poch intends to throw him in the side just yet. Our new kids will get EL and league cup action before starting PL games.

But you don't win anything with kids..........;)

You don't... unless they are supported by a core of experienced pro's. Put Alli in central midfield with a strong experienced holding midfielder with leadership qualities - in other words none of Dier, Bentaleb or Mason - who can look out for him, be a constant source of direction and guide him through his steep learning curve and we have a gem on our hands.

Well I think mason is borderline awful so I don't think it's unfair. He does just pass it 5 yards all the time, whenever he tries anything more he fails, and he's not exactly a goal threat is he? What's worse than his atrocious shooting is the fact he's barely even in a good goal scoring position. And people think he's an AM?

Alli has shown already that's he's far more of a threat, which we need, he could've got two yesterday. He runs with the ball, brace, drives forward, positive. Everything Mason isn't.

It's a bit apples and pears though isn't it? Alli was brought on for Lamela who plays in a more advanced position. Having said that, in his cameo, Alli has shown a lot of promise and something that we absolutely need which is directness.

Why can't Alli play as an attacking midfielder, with Mason (alongside Dier) behind? Just drop Dembele, play Alli in the Frank Lampard role with 2 from Chadli/Eriksen/Njie in the wide positions and Kane upfront.

Something like:

--------------lloris
walker---toby-----vert---rose
--------dier----mason
-------------alli
---njie------kane----eriksen

Alli will find a role if he is good enough and I'm sure he will be

Grimsby would slate Mason if he scored a perfect hat trick and that's his opinion

Alli though should be given more of a Chance as he is direct and plays quick passes

Him with Dembele and Mason (plus bentelab of course) with better options behind Kane Paul's work well IMO

One reason why I'm not 100% happy with Dembele playing atm. He's good for holding on to the ball, but there were times against Leicester when if he just took a risk we might have found a way through in the first half.

I think you are being too harsh on Dembele. Moussa was clearly one of our better players vs. Leciester!

Alli was our best player on Saturday. Which isn't exactly saying much as we were woeful, but still. He clearly has drive that no-one else in the squad bar Mason has ever shown. I think he will end up in the first team by the end of the season.

---------------Kane-----Berahino------------
---------------------Eriksen-------------------
------------Bentaleb--------Alli--------------
-------------------Wanyama-------------------
Rose-Vertonghen-Alderweireld-Walker
----------------------Lloris----------------------

Would be a tasty team, based on current speculation.

Berahino capable of dropping back to winger, Eriksen and Alli occupying the other AM slots and suddenly you have the formation we've mostly been playing under Pochettino.

True, but that really isn't saying much as every Spurs player was distinctly mediocre. I don't think Dembele has it in him to play much better than he did against Leicester, which isn't good enough.

Actually Dembele was good enough. If the rest of the players had played as well we would have won that match easily.

If Lamela can get a start after a very poor substitute appearance then I think Alli has done enough for a start. It is not as if all the midfield/attacking midfielders have been outstanding so far this season. When I think of his cameo against Real Madrid I am even more sure that this guy is ready to start for us

I'd go along with him being one of our best players against Leicester, but I will stand by what I said about him not wanting to play the risky pass.
