Davinson Sanchez

Do not disagree with that, however it usually happens to young kids who are still learning the game here. Its a learning curb but i do believe he is going to be a major player for us as he gets older.

Wouldn’t disagree with that at all. I had him and Dier pegged as the long term replacements for Toby and Jan but Foyth looked like he could be one for the future. I’m wary of heaping too much praise on Foyth for one great League Cup performance but he has had other good games and he handled the sorts of players I’d have been worried about him against given his size. Definitely worthy of more game time to see if he’ll be the Woodgate to Davison’s Ledley in our Premier League winning team.

I think if you are facing a very big, strong guy you have to make cute choices e.g. nick the ball first, or wait for them to try and dribble and nick it, or put them off enough so they don't get a clean hit, or shut off the supply etc, rather than necessarily go and try to outmuscle them. You can't outmuscle someone like Lukaku, yet he has a lot of ineffective games.
Perhaps Sanchez is more likely to try outmuscle Rondon Deeney Lukaku and fail, whereas Foyth knows he can't so he uses other tactics.

Yeh you don't have to be a beast to be a decent defender, it can help but also limits how affective you are as an attacking defender or playmaker I reckon. Foyth can put on muscle if he wants to add that to his game but he's a different type of defender

Similar to vertonghen.

The deeney one was the decision to try and barge him off the ball, he does it a lot and probably wins them 90% of the time but hopefully he will learn that sometimes it’s better to pick and choose your battles and contain physical but limited players whilst reinforcements arrive rather than go for an all or nothing challenge.

Shoulder charges don't always work. Sanchez will learn that in the EPL it's better to get hip to hip... Sometimes working the centre of gravity pays off better

What I liked about Sanchez last night was the kind ‘escort’ he offered to substituted opposing players. Our very own doorman!
I didn't. He'll get carded for doing that against a savvy team.
He saves us 3 seconds whilst riling the opposition, OR wastes 60 seconds if it kicks off.
A bit pointless really, even though I share his sentiment, just get off the damn pitch.

He's getting back into the swing of things after his layoff. I think a "backs to the wall" defensive performance suits him, he seems happy as a pure defender. Good job too, it's what we need against the better teams.
