Davinson Sanchez

Yeah, we won nearly every header that was lumped into our back line, very impressive against some big lumps. Lumpy.

That Billing should have received eight yellow cards, he thinks he is Marouane Fellaini.
 
Sanchez looked pretty rusty today with a sequence of poor decisions, scuffed clearances to Cardiff players and - when 1 centre back challenges, the other should sweep behind - sometimes Sanchez AND Toby went for the header, sometimes Toby went up and Sanchez wasn't covering.

He did plenty of good things too, and he is going to be a good player IMO, but today he did not look great.

Seemed to musjudge a lot situations, he's keen to impress and maybe just try and do the basics just now.
 
One of his poorer games today I think. But as a 22 year old centre-half in only his second season in English football, he's going to be a bit up and down. I would hope for more consistency and better decision making this time next season.
 
I think people are missing a very key fact. When Davo plays alongside Jan? All good. When he plays alongside Toby? Not so much. I think the issue is that Jan is a leader and warrior in defense whereas Toby is not. We miss Jan. We will not miss Toby nearly as much as we miss Jan.

It's also an unfamiliar partnership, so that will make them both look worse. They don't look good as a pair though, hopefully they improve their understanding quickly.
 
How many back passes to his goalkeeper yesterday, was a ridiculous amount that much I know ...And against the mighty Cardiff! ...Dier and Winks vacated the space in front of our center-halves, they were both hiding ....We badly need a replacement for Dembele.

Could not agree more and said as much in the Jan thread, Jan is such a calm player and he passes that on to whoever plays with him. Toby is a very good player but ( imo) Jan is the leader and Sanchez ( still only 22) still needs the help that he gets from Jan.

Sanchez is going to be a special player but is still really learning the Prem game.

I think he was even better when he played with both of them!

I’d argue it more to do with when Jan isn’t there we have a player on the left who isn’t comfortable there (Toby or Davidson)

When Jan is there they all slot into their natural positions

Another fair point as we do miss a natural left-footed CB in his absence. I still think Jan makes both Davo and Toby better by being there.
