He has had a few good games now on the bounce and seems more confident in himselfBeen critical of him in the past, probably will be again in the future. Putting in some very good performances now though and that's great to see.
Certainly exceeding my expectations for how he would do in Romero's absence. Well done.
I don't agree, he is still skittish, he is still the person our opponents WANT to be in possession, he still plays hospital passes to Royale, gets in a tangle, makes poor decisions, slashes at the ball, is not composed, drags us deeper and deeper towards Lloris and then scrapes the ball out of play whilst falling over. His first touch in a game a week ago was to shank and shin it wildly up in the air under no pressure. He has had a few good game snow on the bounce and seems more confident in himself
If he was anywhere near as terrible as you’re making out, Conte wouldn’t be putting him anywhere near our starting eleven. He has been defending well and he has played some great balls for our forwards in recent games….I don't agree, he is still skittish, he is still the person our opponents WANT to be in possession, he still plays hospital passes to Royale, gets in a tangle, makes poor decisions, slashes at the ball, is not composed, drags us deeper and deeper towards Lloris and then scrapes the ball out of play whilst falling over. But i think when you boil down the time he's had with us , and the fact he's probably worth a few £....you'd roll the dice, and get a replacement in?True
That’s was vs pool and didn’t cost us
But he has looked happier IMO with and without the ball every game
I thought he was poor vs Norwich for example but people disagreed and said I disliked him which isn’t true. I’ll credit him when IMO he has played we and criticise him when I believe he hasn’t

Indeed. I wonder how much of the £170m we owe to other clubs for transfers is for players that are nailed on part of our future?Just hope Romero doesn’t turn out to be a typical spurs big money signing
Is that the figure in the accounts?Indeed. I wonder how much of the £170m we owe to other clubs for transfers is for players that are nailed on part of our future?
Like everything
Comes down to what we think we will get vs what we think he did worth to the team
same as with the people who think we need a LCB… I kinda agree because of someone displaced Davies who has been solid as a rock under Conte they must be very very good which is great for the team
I’d love a too player who can player any of the 3 roles. That would be of massive value to the team (Sanchez can’t play left and Davies can’t play right)
Just hope Romero doesn’t turn out to be a typical spurs big money signing
Romero is classSomeone that can play left right and centre would be a rare thing. Even our best centre backs in recent memory would fail to live up to that I think.
Would be very happy with someone good on the left and in the centre. That is difficult enough to find.
Think Romero will be absolutely fine under Conte. Has the quality on the ball, has the defensive ability, physical presence. Bit rash and overly aggressive at times, but in a back three that is less of an issue and more details to be ironed out.
Romero is class
Just appears to be broken a lot already
Dier can play anywhere I really the 3 so maybe he is that man
Dier starts centrally but can play other sides. That’s just in respond to your comment about those players being rare. Dier couldn’t play left side before he joined usDavies out, Sanchez and Tanganga starting with Dier it was still Dier in the centre. Perhaps if Romero had been available Dier would have started on the left?
Dier is capable of playing on the left, but it's not a good solution imo. Decent left foot, but much worse than his right and him on the left would leave us getting less out of him and perhaps also weaker in the central role.
Left centre back becomes more or less a traditional full back when we attack. I rate Dier, but a left back he's not.
Would also see Dier spending more time wider and to the left when defending, not his strength imo.
Emergency option, yes, but shouldn't be seen as a first or second choice in a better balanced squad imo.
If we're looking to sign a centre back it should be someone with real quality (or at the very least great potential) in the LCB role where we're currently without real options. If we could sign another Dier it would do very little to fix that problem.
Add the ability to play as the central CB in the same player and we would have real options and competition.

Romero played centre and right at Atlanta
But what Im Getting at is those players exist and short term would be a better option
TBF Tanganga can play anywhere across the back 3
Did we… the issue against palace was nothing came down the right until the red cardWhat I'm saying is that whatever your threshold for saying that someone can play across the back three is that's fair enough, but we need more than can play there.
We're now building from the back again. We're trying to play through pressure again. We're taking real steps in improving our buildup play.
That doesn't happen to a sufficient degree imo with a LCB that "can" play as a LCB. We need real quality. Davies offers that, but imo he's the only one.
That may be enough to get us through this season. But if/when we're looking to buy another centre back we should look to buy someone with real quality in that specific role. That would fix a problem. Another player that "can" play there, but isn't a natural LCB, another Dier/Tanganga doesn't fix that problem.
It may fix other problems, but right now the lack of LCB options is the most pressing concern at centre back.
See the Palace game until the red card to illustrate. Tanganga is fine, but we lost so much in our buildup play and attack by not having Davies there.
Did we… the issue against palace was nothing came down the right until the red card
But that can be because the CM offered nothing too
I agree we should only add first 11 players but I’d argue they have to be in areas we are weak…. Like attack where we have 1 striker and 2 supporting strikers.Centre backs are obviously vital to deep buildup play. Davies offers real quality, that makes the others better too, including central midfielders.
Lack of quality on the ball in other positions only makes it more important that any new signing in any position has that real quality. Cascading effect of lacking quality on the ball in several areas only makes the problem worse.
That needs to stop. No more "can play there" solutions should be added, we already have enough of those. Real quality, real fit into the system we want to play. That's how we improve by signing new players unless we can somehow just buy amazing players.
