Davinson Sanchez

I checked out an Ajax message board last night, they didn't seemed too fuzzed about losing him over there. He supposedly isn't a great passer, and they had some other young kid many of them rated higher than Sanchez, and saw it as a bit of a steal if they could get 40 mill for him.

Oh, well, time will tell. :)

Id rather we spend 22 mill on Ben Gibson tbh. Quite impressive last season. He is more of a left sided cb but as we are set to sell Wimmer surely Gibson would be an ideal replacement. Also Verts isn't getting any younger so Gibson can be the long term solution.

I think its a shocking price they are demanding. The passing thing is spmething Mourinho targetted in yhe EL final and he told his players to hound Sanchez when he had the ball and put him under extreme pressure and force mistakes.

Half of our lot don't look good when targeted and put under 'extreme pressure'......So I wouldn't worry too much.

For that kind of money for someone as unproven I would expect someone with at least the talent to become a complete, ball playing centre back.

I don't know if he has that talent or not.

So it really is a 5 year commitment. Except if it's not. Though sometimes it is.

I prefer my description.

You can have any description you want but that will not change fact that a player is not in control of his own future. And a longer contract means a longer period without control. And I cannot really understand why. Especially now when it seems like the clubs starting to play a harder game.

The point of a long contract is security for both player and club.

Everyone knows that it is entirely likely it will never been seen to completion, however:
- from the players point a view he has a guaranteed income no matter what. Sanchez has had 1 year in europe, is entirely unproven and we are (most likely) about to at least double his wages. If he flops, or if he gets injured long term, he is still very secure financially.

- from the clubs point of view, all the time there is the Bosman ruling, long contracts are necessary to protect the investment made. We are being expected to pay £30m+ for this player. Anything less than 5 years and we are just throwing money away. You can see for yourself the way a players value drops drastically in the last 24 months of a contract.

Its as simple as that.

Nobody expects the contract to be seen through, but having such a long one suits both parties interests.

I think we are being overcharged for him. Would rather spend that money on Foyth.

Have you watched both of them a lot? Not trying to come across as arsey but would be genuinely interested if you had and could give a decent view on both

If Sanchez ends up being a regular first teamer, then the price to me is ok

I have watched Davinson. He can't bench the first three CBs at Spurs. Also lacks positional discipline. He is quick, strong and overly aggressive. Would not pay more than 30m. I suspect Levy if he buys him will tie part of the transfer fees to how he performs over the coming years. He is overrated at the moment. Would rather have Foyth or the 17 yr old Ajax Dutch international CB.

Don't get me wrong. He is a very good defender who can also play midfield. He is good on the ball and moves forward with ease. My concern is the price.

Youve honestly seen enough of him to make that assertion? Ive seen a lot of Davinson and he could easily get in our team with three CBs....

You think he would bench Dier? His aggressive nature in tackling has led to him putting his fellow defenders in trouble when he is caught out of position. Dier is a better CB in my opinion than him.

Foyth is cheaper and can improve. Davinson is better than Foyth. I also suspect the Colombian sees Spurs as a stepping stone.

Any top player should. If you dont have aspirtations to be at the level of a Barca/Real Madrid then you wont be good enough for where we want to be - Eriksen has no qualms about his desire to play for Barca and I have no issue with that. I do think Davinson has potential to be a better CB than Dier yes, Dier has also looked shaky at times at CB and I prefer him as DM myself....

Don't buy into that bull of not having ambition if you don't sign for barca or madrid. The club just has to be ambitious enough for a long time and all of a sudden it becomes the place to go. I have watched football before sky and during a time where Italy was the destination to go.

The sooner we can compete on a decent level I think there will be more and more clubs the way the game is going that could afford what real pay.

Agree with that last bit - I think people have forgotten how good he was as a DM in that season he played there every week

Potential perhaps. Ability as at today, no. I have not hailed Dier at CB but he strikes me as a better team defender. Well let's see what happens. Hearing rumours of the usual clubs trying to steal this buy.

And I still think my original reply to you explains that quite well if you're willing to give up on the idea that signing a 5 year contract must mean you make a 5 year commitment. But you seem very attached to that "letter of the contract" interpretation.

In the squad to play Rosenberg tomorrow now

Sounds like negotiations have broken down and shock horror we're not buying him
