Coronavirus

Gotto remember how you catch it and how much viral load you get can increase severity. If you are chatting in the open to someone who has it. You aren't going to inhale that many viruses. They will take time to replicate giving your immune system time to build defenses. Spending hours in a room with someone infected, kissing, sharing drinks. You are going to get a lot more, that will replicate enter cells... your immune dystem czn be overwhelmed and go nuts. Cytokine storm attacking healthy cells and tearing holes in lungs.

Or just get vaccinated.

I'd prefer vaccination but if there's a 6 month queue for my age group and I want to go out in the meantime, I'd certainly consider it.

They're all in lockdown now. The ones already vaccinated will be tinkled too. Bad situation. They brought on themselves. Should have opened up earlier and let it rip through after the most vulnerable were vaxxed.

Too late now.

So the news is slowly starting to mention "be careful for Christmas" but based on fact there are not many restrictions, uptake on boosters are fairly decent and the numbers are stable I cant see a risk we lose Christmas again. Nothing to really tell people to be careful about anymore not now you can do things like concerts and football in large numbers etc?

Cases might be rising slightly. But hospital admissions are falling still. We saw half term bring cases down. Similar will probably happen at xmas.
The new variant spreading makes less people sick. The boosters are going well.
Fingers crossed but looks like we're good.

The distraught way people I know are behaving just because they hate the government, will be the biggest thing I take away from this pandemic. I didn't vote for this government and won't vote for them next time either but am happy covid is on it's way out.

France 32k cases today 81 deaths.
Germany 73k and 321 deaths. New record for daily cases.

No peak in sight yet for either country.

Our natural acquired immunity percentage is higher than in Europe. Flattening the curve rather than being obsessed with zero cases has allowed infection rates to continue to tick along, and once we had vaccinated all the vulnerable pushed ahead with relaxing measures.

The dark side of that is the amount of lives that strategy has cost us. Ironically it looks like some countries might have to stomach some of the lives they thought they'd saved now, as deaths start to climb.

What might be helping (and there should be more studies into natural immunity), is someone with natural immunity might 1. Have lasting immunity and 2. Really have next to no chance of of passing the virus on, (if exposed again compared to a vaccinated person who we know can still pass it on) literally creating dead ends for the virus.

Also az produces more tcells giving longer immunity from serious infections.. There will be findings released soon. One of the oxford scientists said she didn't think az required a booster.

Europe didn't use it for over 65s at the beginning, due to macron and merkles unfounded claims. Then wasn't used for young people. Then some countries stopped using it altogether.

The 3 month gap between doses also gives better, long lasting immunity.

I don't think the second thing is the case. But with the first they think natural immunity is something like 25 times stronger than vaccine-induced. I'm not sure they expect it to last more than 2-3 years, but that each subsequent infection will but much milder (i.e. entirely cold like).

I posted a vid a couple of weeks ago. Prof tim spector put immunity from infection at 65% of catching the virus. But longer lasting than vaccines.

What part is 'not the case'?

Early on I think there were some studies showing T-cell leagacy in SARS Cov 1 infected people 10-15 years later.
And what is going on with an asymptomatic person. Are they just not predisposed to the virus or did they already have some legacy immune defence (from other corinaviruses) that activated to shut it down. Obviously testing when you are not ill and discovering you are positive for something is novel in itself and just went to illustrate that viruses are passing thru us all the time.

I'm fairly sure they think people with immunity through infection can still carry it

The SARS T-cell legacy is 18-19 years to-date, because there was been no significant waning of it so far in those recovered from the 2002 outbreak

Oh come on. They ve brought in lockdowns because they are not prepared to accept nearly a thousand deaths a week like we have done over the last few months. I am sure they will peak and still have fewer deaths than us. This epidemic goes in cycles of peaks and troughs and will continue to do so. I don’t think we should be looking over at Europe with any smugness at all. I do generally enjoy your posts on covid btw v informative. But we have to be careful about making definitive statements on immunity or infection spread. Only a few months ago we were being told vaccines reduce transmission by 90%, that is clearly not the case. We were told schools are not hubs for covid again not the case. There is a lot of speculation and not many facts.

People were totally prepared to act smug the other way when our atrocious government were fcuking up at the beginning and middle of this.

Everything European is automatically better then us so why not mention or reference when something they do is wrong. Because so many people in this thread were happy to say how much better they were doing.

To me personally covid is over and we move on having once a year jabs. The Germans biggest problem was cosying up to Putin and getting rid of nuclear power. Covid will only kill people without vaccines and that is their own fault, salad eating hippy fcuks.

They've brought in lockdowns because their health service is on the verge of collapse. They simply can't take anymore. Germany is discussing triage now. Although it may be considered illegal.
If they had opened up earlier and let the virus run it's course. While schools were on holiday. Health service wasn't stretched. Weather was nice so doors and windows were open, creating airflow and reducing viral load. Vit d from the sun. Vaccine immunity hadn't started waning. They would be in a far better position than now.
Yes we've had more deaths over the summer and autumn. Mainly people that didn't get vaccinated. Unless you are proposing vaccine mandates it's unlikely they would ever get vaccinated. So postponing getting it in summer till winter doesn't increase their chances of survival, it reduces it. If they can even get into a hospital.

Germanys deaths from covid will be far higher than the uks this winter.

Stop exaggerating. Germany’s or Netherlands health systems are not on the verge of collapse. Their case rates will peak and come down it’s the one sure thing we know about this disease. Peddling nonsense has become fashionable with covid. The death numbers in Germany are nearly 50 % less than ours.

No one was smug just concerned at the number of cases and deaths. They were right to be.
