Coronavirus

I know this is not over yer. But I have to say thank you to everyone on this board for helping me stay just the right side of madness through all this. My family have been magnificent but you lot have given me an outlet for my anger and frustration. So thank you all and hope I haven't been too unkind.

Glad to hear, bar a few touchy days which I put down to the levels of stress around at the moment it's been a pretty good debate.

Have to say the vaccinations seem to be going pretty well, 320K 1st doses done today. Can see there being some issues on booking 2nd jabs in on time and managing the supply around then but looking good so far.

It’s horrendous
It is what it is and people will get vaccinated but it means so many other issues will materialise
My wife’s team and now on 7 day working because they know the volume is gonna be so big with all the Covid cases affecting people in hospital

My wife teaches autistic kids in a Nursery which should have 8 staff in a rota

Down to 2 now but she’ll still be going in next Monday when she should be having time off
She was isolating over Xmas and New Year

Not been offered the jab yet as not considered important enough!!

I second all of that from my own perspective. I’d have struggled a lot more through this without this forum.

I need not tell you obviously, but your wife is doing incredibly great work. Hats off to her mate.

Another hero. Appalled she cannot get the jab yet.

Yes there is - it's exactly why countries have nuclear deterants.
Nuclear deterrents are quite different.

A deterrent decreases the likelihood of an unlikely event happening. We're talking about mitigation measures for if that unlikely event happens - they can't affect the probability.

Reality Check showing itself to be one of the few worthwhile parts of the BBC yet again:

No Christmas spike it appears. A really smart person might think a lot of underlying factors, such as seasonality, lifestyles, population density, etc. have more of an effect.

I’m not sure I’d set too much store by one scientist’s interpretation of the data - especially when he inserts a number of caveats himself.

But why would there be an expectation spike given all the restrictions in place over Christmas?

The incubation time is fairly well established. We know the date of Christmas Day fairly solidly and I think most of us are capable of marking the passage of time with a calendar.

Not much else to interpret from that.
