Ultimately, they are in charge, they perform or do not. I would agree with you if the government had a limited budget. Or if they had no warning of what was coming or did not have months to prepare.
When you have billions of our money to spend, a competent government leverages the existing arrangments early, throws more money at it, and ensures we get our PPE in a planned way. What happened is just a shambles. They acted late and in a panic. We then spent £12,500,000,000 probably making a number of opportunists millionaires in the process. All at the taxpayer's expense. Then they did something similar with test and trace. Acted late, spent a lot of money, on something that didn't provide value. You can defend it if you wish, but to me it seems shambolic.
Aren't we one of the nations that has spent the most on the pandemic but have some of the least effective interventions?
On a more positive note, it was good to see a dedicated vaccine Minister. During the early stages of this, it was clear to anyone with some management logic, that having Hanrooster in charge of everything from bolstering hospitals to testing to PPE was way too much. At the time in this thread, people were saying why not have a dedicated Minister for testing or for PPE.
The only reason it matters is schools nurses etc will get less money. The haves will be fine, while those who probably deserve more will pay for it. That can't be right.
