Lockdown 2 coming?

Another announcement due

Not right now and certainly won't be called a lockdown. A series of local lockdowns still likely.

However listening to one podcast other day, they reckon a 2 week 'circuit break' (see, not a lockdown) may be put forward by the Govt towards end of October when Half term kicks in at the schools.

"To save Christmas" as the Tories will likely spout, is currently one of the more likely scenarios. But it's not a lockdown, definitely not...

yep.

nicely timed for the end of furlough as well.

I can see the rumours of Rishi resigning coming true

So more young people getting it (due to increased testing of the young I’d imagine), but still only the old who are getting it serious enough to go in to hospital.

So it’s too soon to say the new guidelines are having an affect - fair

but it’s unfair to ask questions on the charts given last week.

these guys are brickhawks feeding on fear

If the government had got a grip in February there would be nothing to fear.

You ain’t seen nothing yet, by the way. Wait until Brexit hits in the middle of flu season.

Nothing to do with Brexit, I think it’s stupid to leave - but these are 2 unrelated things.

It was under control and they have panicked again and decided to go down the wrong route again.

This is an interesting thread. Why are they creating such a panic. The measures are clearly having an impact

It’s just doubling down - other countries are going the other way.

It’s impossible for them to admit they got it wrong

Personal opinion here, but this tweet etc seems to be portraying scientific advisors during a global pandemic quite negatively, almost like a Us vs Them mentality.

Whitty and others will effectively be remembered for how he advised the governement during a global pandemic, something other chief scientific/medical advisors previously and over the years will never have dealt with anything remotely close.

This tweet feels a bit like "the science is wrong" and is just adding fuel to the fire of distrust in the scientific community, anti-vaxxers and mask wearers etc.

Is Whitty erring on the side of caution? Being over dramatic? Yeh, probably. But ultimately i can only assume this is coming from a place of "I'm the Chief Medical Officer of the UK" so every death is effectively one more than he wanted against his name. THe government can choose not to implement rules and policies, but ultimately if the CMO is saying "things are brick and be more vigilant" then, i'm happy to go along with that. I for one, am not sick and tired of experts like Gove is.

CoronaQuiz:

Quick straw poll, who here is wearing masks happily and who here thinks it's a pain in the arse and takes every opportunity not to wear one when possible?

Was reviewing some data from an economist yesterday on the R rate, and based on the minimal data availabilty out there, wearing Masks (both the infected and the healthy individual) has the greatest limit in reducing R.

Also, remember the Diamond Princess ship or whatever from early on in the pandemic? The R rate on the ship was 12

I wear when around people for sure. I wear obviously where mandated. I don't wear when cycling or walking the dog in the hills or by the beach.

I wear one where required - shops, our factory floor, etc.

Nowhere else though.

I wear one wherever it's required but I do go out to shops etc less because of it - mainly because I have a young baby and I don't like her seeing me in a mask. Think it freaks her out.
